I have an Allison MD3060 with a pushbutton selector control unit. It has a Mode button that lights up an indicator light for "Economy". What does this do? I can't notice any difference in shifting. The Allison manual shows the button and the indicator light but there is no explaintion of there purpose or use. Any thoughts or explanations? Thanks, Archie Ritch

Archie,

It lets the tranny upshift sooner @ a lower RPM and less torque and it will also downshift later @ a lower RPM and less torque. (I think I said that right!?)

Archie, there is an excellent article on the Allison Economy Mode Button, written by Brett Wolfe, coming out in this August's CAT RV CLUB Newsletter. Check it out . . . hope your are a member of the CLUB!

Hi,

In the economy mode it will upshift earlier and downshift later, it tends to keep the engine in the torque band longer. The advantage is less fuel consumed, the down side is slightly lower performance.
I Performance mode it will upshift later, downshift earlier, keeping the engine in a slightly higher RPM mode, the advantage is faster acceleration, faster hill climbing, etc. The downside is slightly lower fuel mileage.

The difference between the 2 is usually .5 (1/2) mpg or less.

Lee,

How can we get a copy if we are not part of the club?

Thank you

Shawn, my wife and I are the CAT Club Newsletter Editors so I have a copy. I'm sure Brett will be happy I provide a CAT owner a copy so it is attached. I only ask that you visit http://www.catrvclub.org/> look around and consider joining. You'll learn a lot and it's a good group.
