Title: ONAN 7K Diesel Generator problem

I have an ONAN 7K Diesel Generator in my '99 Magna that just stopped working a couple days ago. It had an error code of 3 and a fault code of 19 - meaning "TAKE IT IN FOR SERVICE". I took it to a service location and found that the glue holding the magnets on the rotor had failed. The magnets flew off the rotor, jamming it and burning out the inverter controller. Repair costs: $2700.
In checking the internet, it seems that a number or other ONAN owners have had this same trouble. I can't find a recall notice and calls to ONAN have not been returned. Has anyone had similar trouble and any luck with Onan?

I remember reading about that problem about a year ago on RVNET. You might go to that site and do a search and see if you can find out how many failed. If I remember correctly, ONAN would not cover any of the costs to repair if the GenSet was out of warranty.

Onan is now part of Cummins and not the family business it was. Don't expect any sympathy from them I am afraid.
Versus the cost of a whole new unit (~$10k??) ~$2700 isn't nearly as bad.
