Title: Aqua hot backfiring a bit

About two days ago our new to us 2002 Affinity aqua hot diesel heater started to backfire a bit. The thing only has about 25 hours on it as previous owner did not use it. I made him service it before I took the coach and they replaced a nozzle inside it and filter. It worked great for maybe 5-6 hours. Now seems to backfire a bit when using. A little puff of smoke comes out of it when it does the backfire. Actually it could be the thing is just restarting as there is minimal noise.

Is it a Hurricane Heater by ITR or and Aqua Hot? Guessing it's a Hurricane it sounds like it is just flaming out and restarting(off for about 7 seconds) leaving a plum of smoke. The most common cause of a flame out is it's getting air in the fuel supply. It could be a number of things that is causing this but make sure the nozzle is clean. The Oring may need to be replaced. Probably the best advice I could give you is checkout the videos on ITR's website. They have a troubleshooting video on the bottom of their page.

Good advice here. An ITR tech told me that a worn nozzle O ring on the Hurricane can allow air to pass through which can cause a flameout. Mine was flaming out so I cleaned the nozzle with brake cleaner, installed a new O ring and a nozzle filter screen. Problem solved.
