No one has taken in to account the investments that mobile techs need to make. Tools, parts inventory, liability insurance, a good trailer to haul all their goodies around and a truck to pull the trailer. All that has to be built in to their hourly rate.

These techs must also replace medical, retirement and other expenses their employer may or may not have provided. As they must buy these things as individuals at higher rates than a relatively large employer things get even worse. The difference between an independent tech and a brick and mortar business are nowhere near the 50% first mentioned.
I have never felt "taken" if I paid a premium price but got my money's worth - that is the ultimate test. I said premium, not gouged, there is a big difference. My problem is less than 10% of the RV repair/maintainence businesses I have dealt with were worth what they charge. As a routine I receive my coach back in worse shape than it went in.
When I find a capable, honest business I use them as much as possible - or do it myself - for as long as I can anyway. The exchange of information by this group on where to find fair places and quality work is worth its weight in unobtanium!
