I have some property that I need to do some work on. I will need my pickup there to haul stuff. Has anyone out there towed a Silverado pickup (2000 model year)? What is required? What toad brake system?
Thanks.

I had a 2005 GMC Sierra 4 wheel drive(same as Chevy Silverado) that was OK to tow 4 wheels down. If yours is a 2 wheel drive, it will not work unless you remove the drive shaft or back onto a tow dolly. (you can do a one way rental on a tow dolly from U-Haul). In 2000 Chevy/GMC had a model change mid year and I think the older model is not towable. The newer model has a transfer case that can be shifted to neutral. Check your owners manual, if it is towable there will be a section on "recreational towing".
I used a Blue Ox base plate and tow bar and a Brake Buddy braking system.

I use Remco's (http://www.remcotowing.com/) driveshaft disconnect for my 2008 Toyota Tacoma. I can disconnect /reconnect the drive shaft from the driver's seat. It's pricey (~$1000, includes installation), but it is a good system that works really well.

GMC and Chevrolet manual state that,
Tow-Wheel Drive vehicles should NOT be towed with all four wheels on the ground. Two-wheel-drive transmissions have no provisions for internal lubrication while being towed. To properly tow these vehicles, they should be place on a platform trailer with all four wheels off the ground.
In short, Use a car trailer to haul your truck...
I have a 2003 GMC 4x4 with the automatic push button transfer case, I will only two this truck and my 03 Envoy on a trailer...

I forgot to mention that my Tacoma is 2 wheel drive.

For five years I have towed a '05 four door 4X4 silverado. My coach is an '04 Intrigue with the C 12 engine. I use the 10,000# Blue Ox and also their skirt for gravel protection. For fifteen years I have used MG supplemental brake. I would not tow a vehicle that the MG would not fit on. Good Luck
