Title: wiper question

upon driving in torrential and unusually using my wipers on high r hours, the passengers wiper was hitting the body a bit on it outward stroke. now it has solved that problem but it is now canted to the center post when parked instead of being vertical. i assume solution is to remove the wiper arm from drive post and reposition? but it is ver tight on shaft. i assume there is a spline if i can remove it and i can reposition? how do i get it off?

I've had the same problem. You need a bearing puller. Here's what they look like:

A two-arm would do the job. Once you remove the cap nut holding the wiper arm on, the puller shaft will fit on the wiper shaft and you can hook the arms behind the wiper arm. Tighten and off it comes. Yes, the arm shaft is splined. I put a little WD-40 on mine to prevent rust.
I'm beginning to reap some of the benefits of old age. I saw these pullers years ago and thought I had to have them. I bought a small, medium, and large. Never had use for one untill recently when I needed to remove my wiper arms. The small one is perfect for the job.

Thanks George. I fear you are correct about a puller. Are you sure it is splined? I can see kind of a keyway on the front.

Yes, my wiper shaft and arm mount are splined and do not have a keyway.
The complicating factor in removal is that the arm mount is spring loaded to the arm. So, if you try to hold the arm to pull it off it exerts a sideways torque on the shaft and binds it further. Unless you are strong enough to remove the arm mount from the shaft with your thumb and index finger gripping the mount, you need a puller to exert the correct forces to remove it smoothly.

Guys,

My wipers are just as George Harper describes. The way I have removed the splined arms is to located an existing hole through the arm, at the point of the hinge. The wiper arm can be pulled away from the glass, and a nail, screw or drill bit can be inserted into the hole in such a way as to hold the arm locked away from the class. This removes the torque issue mentioned by Mr Harper and makes the splined joint much easier to separate.

I have borrowed a pitman arm puller for foreign autos from Auto Zone.
With a little creativity, the pantograph wiper will be removed by the puller.

I have a question for my friendly experts. My passenger side headlight bulb has burnt out. I can very easily get to it but, here is the question; does it push or pull or twist. It has been in the socket a long time and I do not want to ruin it. Thanks Gene

If I recall correctly, turn it about 1/4 or so turn counter clockwise and then pull out.

On my 1999 Allure I'm thinking the same as your units headlights is 1987-91 Ford Bronco, F-series pick-up headlight assembly. First you MUST unscrew the sealing cap on the assembly socket and then remove the light bulb wiring assembly socket. Gently rock it back n forth till it breaks free of rubber gasket. Yep that easy... Just did it yesterday! Mine not as easy to get at as yours, I thinking. Having Gummby arms would have helped a great deal.

I had some feedback on my fuel gauge and voltage meter. I check the grounds and could not find a major bus, but check what I could see. Went to the alternator were there is a green wire, but it seemed to secure. I restarted engine after being idle for several days and the fuel gauge was still reading empty, but the alternator was reading 13 to 13.5 and showed a discharge when I started engine. Now my questions is where to now? Any suggestions? I am thinking about taking it to a truck or bus shop and having the alternator checked? I did touch the green wire on the alternator could I have made it return to ground? Over my head now, would appreciate any suggestions. Especially where a central bus might be for grounds.

Jim... Each gauge has a ground terminal that connects to ground with a green wire... follow the green wires from the gauges and they should lead to a ground buss bar that is grounded to the frame with a heavy green wire...
On my Magna, the ground buss is mounted on the firewall behind the panel with speedometer, tach, temp, oil pressure, etc.
