WE ARE CURRENTLY IN MONTREAL, QC WITH NO HOT WATER. THE POWER STATUS ON THE PANEL BOARD SHOWS NO POWER TO THE HOT WATER HEATER. WHEN SWITCHING TO GAS, THE RED DEFAULT LIGHT COMES ON.
WE FOUND A TECHNITION WHO DIAGNOSED THE GAS HEATING PROBLEM AS A DEFECTIVE THERMOCOUPLER WHICH HE REPLACED AND THE GAS HOT WATTER SIDE WORKS.
HE COULD NOT SOLVE THE ELECTRIC HEATER PROBLEM, THE BREAKER IS GOOD, BUT POWER DOES NOT FLOW TO THE HEATER. OUR SCHEMATICS SHOW A BREAKER AND A 7.5 BAYONET FUSE IN A SEPERATED PANEL. I COULD NOT FIND THE PANEL-NOR COULD THE TECH. (THE MANUAL STATES IT IS IN THE DS FRONT BAY...BUT I COULD NOT LOCATE THE PANEL.
WOULD ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS.

A couple of years ago I didn't have any hot water from the electric side either -- turned out to be the heating element had burned out. Easy fix - unscrewed the old one - saw the break in element jacket - ordered a new one and screwed it in and reattached the wires.
Good luck

I had the problem of not working on electric. I found that the switch that is on the water heater was burned up. Look on the back side of the heater, where the 110vac hooks up. You will find a black rocker switch that might be defective. Mine was a piece of charcoal so I just took it out of the circuit. Make sure the water heater circuit breaker is off before taking the cover off to get to the switch.
