my sliding stair well cover is half closed, i can hear the motor humm.how do i open it to see the problem?.2004 inspire.

look in the bay under the driver's window... the motor for the stair well cover is up above the generator... Since you can hear it "hum", it is not a power problem... Could just be in a bind, or the gear may be loose on the shaft of the motor, or the gear teeth may be "stripped". If the gear is stripped, you can get a working motor at an auto wrecking yard for a few bucks, as it is an electric window motor... remove the motor and take it with you to the wrecking yard so they can match it up with one they have...
