I'm having a "spaz"!! I have a new Intrigue on order and I'm reading all about slide-out problems. Am I over reacting?

Interesting concern! "Boss" Kettering (sp) who was once a Chief Engineer with General Motors who had previously invented the self starter for automobiles and the aircraft machine gun that was synchronized to fire between the propeller blades was quoted as saying "Any part left off of a vehicle will never fail". I think that this could be applied to slides on motorhomes.

We all hope so! Many of us in the 2002 and maybe older were caught with a batch of defective hydraulic hoses. Other than that I have been satisfied with my slide functionality.
But don't forget that a slide is a hole in the side of your coach with a plug that slides in and out. Things can go wrong..... leaks, mechanical problems, etc. It also provides a more comfortable living area. Follow the instructions in the manual on the care and feeding (operation and maintenance) and the advice of the owners with experience(with a grain of salt!) and you hopefully will not have too many headaches.
You bought one of the best.... good luck and have fun with it.

Yah, and you could say that about automatic starters on automobiles too. I think if we look at the number of MH and trailers with slides (virtually all of the newer models) and listen to the very few problems which are talked about, the answer is obvious. Calm down---the CC slides are very reliable, and the new design with added space underneath is better than anything I've seen on competitor coaches.

Sit back, relax and have a brewsky. If slides were such a problem, no one would have them. I had some leaking hoses but a trip to HWH took care of them. The only thing worse than a slide problem is not having a Country Coach.

When retracting the slides, I would hold the switch until you could hear the motor pitch change, then a couple seconds extra to balance the cylinders, but on our recent trip, on two occasions, in high winds, the slide was pushed out about 3/4" to 1". The first time, we here headed west on I-10 through south Texas, the wind was from the north, I slowed down and my wife had opened and re-closed the door to make sure it was closed tight (lots of wind noise from the door). The next fuel stop, when I did my walkaround, I noticed the slide was out.
Next time, headed east on I-40 through (guess where?) Texas on the return trip I noticed the slide had moved out again when I was out in the wind-driven rain tieing my ZipDee awning down (I am now a member of the ZipDee club). After re-reading the manual, I noticed that it says to hold for 5 seconds. That seems forever when you are listening to the hydraulic system whining and building up pressure.
Anyone?

The slide question ( to have or not to have ) is best answered by those trying to sell a coach without one. I have a couple of friends having no luck disposing of coaches sans slides. Yes, there are problems from time to time, but slides are here to stay. That said, I think anything over two is overkill.

I've had lots of awning problems and a hydraulic leak from my slide.
I never had it come out in the wind, even with the leak. I live in NM and we have wind. You must be losing hydraulic pressure or something.

I read the manual about the slide the first day we purchased our Magna and we always hold the the switch for several seconds after the slide is in. Never had a problem with the either slide going out. We also close the front door hard when ever we are on the road, that seals the gasket and eliminates wind noise.

You probably are over reacting.....to date, after 3 years of use my slideout has never given me any problems. I am very careful to make sure that the coach is level before extending the slideout..I think that is crucial to insure that you have done your part to avoid problems with the slideout.

I had been holding it for an extra 2 seconds or so.. maybe I need to hold it longer now that I re-read the manual and noticed they say a full 5 seconds. It is just a little unnerving, listening to the pumps whining.
The door noise in windy conditions is a feature in the Allure that you did not get with the Magna (grin) Bill Harris

I have a 2000 40ft Intrigue Cook's Delight and my slide has decided to creep out 4-5 inches while it is in storage. I noticed recntly that it did not seem as square in the side of the rig either.
I talked to Kevin Kiscoan in CC Customer Service and he assured me that it is a solenoid problem. I contacted parts and they are shipping me one. They told me that the location will be readily apparent to me when I look at the new part and open up the service bay (outside) under the driver's side seat. They said it is really simple to install and to fix it myself. They told my wife that the part was $6.00??? She took the call back from parts when I was out and ordered one. I'll advise.
