Traveling from San Francisco area to Motorcoach Country Club in Indigo and wanted a RV park recommendation half way somewhere along I5 possibly.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Prepare for rough running on I5, and lots of traffic. It was so rough it loosened a valance on one bedroom window. Slower speeds and maybe soft tires might help.
Can't help you with a place to park, as I camp out in truck stops. You have to be pretty settled by 4-4:30 before they fill up.

Matthew,
If you are going thru Tehachape on 58 to avoid LA I would recommend The Lakes RV and Golf Resort in Chowchilla for an overnight. It's right off the 99, easy to get to and is gated and nice. Will be hot this time of year. It's an ownership park that is pretty empty at this time of year. Otherwise the pickens are slim. Some friends of ours have dry camped at Harris Ranch but don't know if that is still available. There is Valencia Travel Village in Valancia by Magic Mountain which might be an ok 1 nighter but have not stayed there.

DRY CAMP IN THE HARRIS RANCH
PARKING LOT. MANY RV'S USE IT AND
THE STEAKS ARE PRETTY GOOD.

We make that trip a lot and go over the Tehachapi pass. May take a bit longer, but much more preferred then going over the grapevine.
Our way point is Orange Grove RV park.. just east of Bakersfield.
Very easy in and out.
Hope this helps,

I also recommend Harris Ranch. Hwy 198, I think it's I-5 exit 334.

Bakersfield RV Resort is nice. Restaurant on site. I agree with Russ & Jean, 58/395 may be longer, but a better route.

I always stop at A Country RV park on the 58, Fairfax Rd. Big wide sites, spotlessly kept, and very pet friendly.

Have stayed many times at the Orange Grove on the east side of Bakersfield off Hwy 58. Easy access, big sites. Good half way to Indio.

I use Dan's route also. We used to stay at Orange Grove but last couple of times we had to brush the orange trees to get into and out of the site. Bakersfield RV Resort is also easy in and out and has large pull-thru sites and good access to restaurants including the one on site.

Hi everyone,
There is nothing wrong with asking for 'Rv park' and 'route' recommendations from other forum members. However, the dozens and dozens of responses, generally, are of very little value or interest to the rest of the members. I think that after the initial inquiry is made, all responses should be taken off-list and sent directly to the asker.
I know, and yes, my delete key works. But, geez..........enough's enough! Let the flaming begin...........

Dave, this is not a flame but consider this. If people respond direct to the originator, no one else gets to read and learn from the responses. I think route and park opinions can be very useful. I intend therefore to add my 2 cents. Please use your delete key now.
We travel from Napa, California to Palm Springs. Harris Ranch is really too close to be used as a stop-over on the way down, but makes a lot of sense on the return leg. For those not familiar with the location (near Coalinga on five) the overnight area is simple open area of about three acres. By mutual agreement trucks stay to one side and RV units along the highway hedge line and alongside the small airport. It works well. The large restaurant is very nice but a bit pricey. I do not recommend Harris if the ground is wet, too much mud.
Our choice of route is 5 to Lost Hills, then 46 East through Wasco to 99. Apart from a couple of curves at the western end it is a straight shot. There are a couple of traffic signals in Wasco but traffic is usually light and delays minimal if you get a red light.
99 south to 58 is the busiest part of this journey but it is only a short leg.
The Orange Grove is about eight miles East of Bakersfield. Located close to the freeway with easy on and off ramps. Gravel sites with the larger (wider) ones being on the south side. To be sure of best choice make reservation. No restaurant on site but they do have really nice showers and laundry facilities and early in the year you can pick oranges free of charge!
Located almost at the foot of the Tehachapi pass Orange Grove allows for a good start in the morning and an opportunity to cross the Mojave Desert well before the hottest part of the day. Last year the Boron rest area was closed. Do not know status today.
395 south from Four Corners is a bit of a roller coaster and does have several traffic signals through Adalente but is direct. The alternative would be to continue to 15 in Barstow but this adds mileage.
15 to 210 to 10 and then a late lunch in Indio. QED.

Folks I see not one person has suggested using 138 east of Palm Dale. I have driven that once in the coach from Victoriaville west to Palm Dale. A long time ago , about 12 years ago we came from San Bernardino to Palm Dale by car. I remember a narrow road down from I 15 and don't know what that road is like today. With the significant miles saving i wonder that no one talked about it. Since most the elevation change , when going north, is on I15, it seems that , at least, the return trip from Indio going that way , would not be too bad. Comments.
P S with regard to the many responses, the group knows, that my opinion is that the delete key is not necessary, if we all, use the site responsibly. For instance , I don't feel we need 10 responses confirming agreement with an item. One can send an answer directly to the questioner, that they agree with such and such response. If we all respect this space, it will work better. As well, it seems that a few posters don't know that CAPITALIZING something, is the equivalent of yelling, in the internet/email domain

Dave,
Not sure if this is helpful or not but I only do the web access for this group so the volume of responses doesn't bother me at all as I can read those I am interested in and ignore the ones in which I am uninterested. If you get the mailed responses I can understand your frustration with the number of replies so the fix would be to change it to where you receive no emailed responses but just read the response here at the group site. Hope you understand what I am trying to say as I am trying to help you make this an easier process.

Ray,
Your well intended response is recieved in the same helpful spirit in which it was given. However, my point is this: I joined the Country Coach Owners forum in anticipation that the information exchanged here would be specific to the joys or woes of owning a CC. Informative, helpful, even humorous. A genuine resource for the CC owner with info relevant to their coach.
In addition to road maps, GPS's, specialized GPS programs and updates, and mountains of books and other printed material on RV parks, State Parks, National Parks, resorts and "how's the best way to get from 'A' to 'B'" frankly, this stuff has nothing to do with CC ownership. It's general RVing 'white noise' that can be found on any RV forum that allows it. I don't see how it's specific to owning a CC. Maybe all these lost souls could split off and start a seperate Yahoo "Where in the H--- am I going" forum.
One need not sign his coach year, model and S/N to tell someone how to get to Timbuktu.....it's irrelevent!
Okay. I've got my fire suit on...................

Dear group:
It would be nice if direct responses could be used, AND THEN the originator of the question summarize their findings in one message to the forum. That is probably wishful thinking. But it would also be nice for all members to summarize the final outcome of the problem they asked about -- just nice feedback to the group.
Also, a reminder: "DAILY DIGEST" is a great option over "INDIVIDUAL MESSAGES" in your membership profile. You will receive just one or two DIGESTS a day with a nice ed index of the messages at the start of the message, with the full text of the messages following. I believe it beats 20-30 individual messages per day. (BTW, I have kept 7.5 years of Daily Digests, which are searchable too).
A Blackberry phone will truncate this large message, but the new MOTOROLA DROID X is a great verizon phone which shows the full digest and allows FAST scrolling of the message with a flick of the index finger. (I don't know if the iPhone truncates long messages). I love the phone for remote monitoring of the forum (and easy approval of moderated messages from new members). And it will have a full version of FLASH (for web videos) in a couple of weeks, which the iPhone refuses to include in its product!

Add us to the list of wanting to hear from all. If you don't like it, just delete. We travel north-south in california a couple times a year. Have noted two new parks that we have yet to try, but will now. Seems I learn everyday from the group. I can't say thanks enough...

Thank you very much. Looks like a nice place.
You bring up a good point about LA.
We are leaving later on a Friday night and staying over. Then early in the morning on Saturday going to Indio.
What is the best route?
Thanks,
Matthew

Matthew,
I would recommend 2 routes that make it easier to avoid a lot of the traffic in the LA area. I have lived most of my life in the LA area and burbs and have spent way too much of my time on the road and in traffic. We have used both ways on our way to Northern California and Oregon. The first route is the easiest driving, least amount of trucks, better roads and least amount of heavy traffic but is a bit longer in miles and time. Since you are coming from the City you would need to get over to the 99 from the 5 (where ever you feel comfortable) once you are in the central valley and I would stay at the Lakes in Chowchilla over night. It's a little bit north of Bakersfield on the 99. Then take the 99 to the 58 to the 395 to the 15 to the 10 to Indio. You should have very little traffic to worry about after the Lakes. The road is pretty good the whole way but beware of a few dips after you turn on the 395 for a small stretch. Not bad but could startle you. The down side is it is ugly desert, very hot and sometimes windy. You will hit a few grades but nothing bad and will be going down Cajon Pass which is easy with our exhaust brakes.
The route we take using the 5 has more possibility for traffic, takes you over the grapevine but is a little shorter. Take the 5 south to the 210 to the 15 to the 10 to Indio. I haven't taken the 210 past the 15 (where it used to end) but I think somebody said they finished it all the way - can't verify but maybe someone else can. This routes you around most of the traffic except through Pasadena to San Dimas on the 210 but on Saturday you should be ok anyway.
BTW do you own a lot at Pacific Shores. I spoke with a Matthew in July about his lot there when we were thinking of buying a lot? Good Luck and you will be missing the heat wave this week by Friday.
Safe Travels,
Kathy

THE 210 IS FINISHED TO AROUND REDLANDS, AND DUMPS INTO THE 10. I STOPPED USING THE 5 TO THE 210 BECAUSE TRAFFIC AROUND PASADENA CAN REALLY SLOW YOU DOWN.99 TO 58 TO 395 TO 210 TO THE 10 WORKS WELL FOR ME AND I DRIVE IT OFTEN. SACRAMENTO TO INDIO DRIVING SOLO WITH TOW CAR IN THE BUS IS AROUND 10 HOURS
