Someone had posted a question a couple of months ago about their 400 ISL making a high pitched whistle sound coming from the area of the exhaust pipe. I posted the same question about a week ago, but I never did get a response from anyone or the original poster. One person did respond with what he thought may be the same problem and a fix. Thank you Rob. Cummins says it is normal, but in my case it had not made that sound in the previous almost five year period, so I'm still skeptical. Anyone out there heard of such a thing and know whether it's to be concerned with. My coach is at Cummins right now and they are checking, but so far no findings. Thanks in advance.

R. D. I had, what seems like from you description, the same high pitched whistle sound on my former Monaco Diplomat with the Cummins 400 ISL.
I too was told on more than one occasion, 'it's normal' by both Cummins and Monaco representatives. On the other hand, my CAT just growls! ;-))

Lee, thanks for the info. I just got a call from Cummins and they said they had found the problem and that it was a turbo air control valve. They had to order the part and hopefully I will back in business on Monday. Unfortunately, I was three weeks our of warranty and they won't cover it. I noticed the sound about two months ago and should have called them at that time, but I was on the road for five weeks and the coach was running great. This will be a $1,000 hit. Moral to the story: If you hear anything unusual, call your engine manufacture and let them know.
