We had our first problem with a slide on our coach. Last night of our first big shake down cruise, the big front slide stopped going out. This is a non galley slide unit, and goes out a bit further then the galley slide rigs. Could not get the unit to go out, or in.
Turned off the master switch, went out and did an outside inspection. Found the front lower edge of the slide (below the small front facing slides window, on our unit), had a right angle piece of metal that had seperated from the slide. This right angle runs the full lowere front (one on the rear too) edge of the room slide out. Looks like the bottom section of the right 90 degree angle, is used to run in/out the the slideout, carrying the room (speculation on my part, but I could see wear patterns on this strip, from I suspect a wheel of some kind).
We Gorilla Taped the piece back up tight to the bottom of the slide, using the painted side of the room to attach the right anble stip up tight against. (Went inside, and restarted the full cycle. First closed the slide all the way. Then openned it all the way for the night. In the AM, it closed again all of the way. Seemed to run properly. As 'full disclosure', I do think I caused the problem that made the room self protect shut down during openning. I had the engine running, but due to the heat (Carson City was 98) we had the generator going with both roof AC's running. I did not open the driver window during the open slide attempt. I thought the AC would have been putting in a postive air pressure, but realized I was wrong, that it was recirculating the air within the rig).
OK - So, anyone else ever have the right angle strip on a slide 'pop loose'. Hos did you repair it, as I doubt Gorilla Tape is the long term solution:)! I'll call Oregon Coach for input too, but wanted to know if any of you have been down this trial before.
I could try to clean it up and just gle it on again (looks like some kind of bondo/sealer was used (well, at least on this strip - who knows, may have been a repaired slide that I don't know about).
I did a quick look at the structure while extended. Was also thinking I might use a good glue, and drill the a hole thru the angle strip, and attach the side pieces with flush rivits or flat head screws?
Thanks in advance for any input.I'll let you know what I find from talking with Oregon Coach Works.

Wanted to apologize for all of the typo's. I do bad enough on a laptop, but the combo of Droid small key pad/screen and bad eyes - got me again...

Just wanted to confirm that I did get a return call from Oregon Motor Coach. A nice gent named Vern, confirmed I was on the right corse. I'm going to get the urethane sealeant he recommened. Drill a few pilot holes and dry fit some flush rivits, goop it up good, and then shoot the rivits into hold it into place.
He commented that they have had some good luck on replacing the angle caps, with s SS strip that has a bit more meat to them for attachment.
Looks like my repair will hold us until we are up in their area for replacement.
OMC is not CC, but - the spirit of off CC's care of the owner's lives on. Vern also made sure I was aware of another great source, the Yahoo CC Owners Group!!!

Best to all,
Smitty

Smitty, I have that same angle piece on the lower front corner come loose from my LR slide three years ago. CC fixed it for me at the Tucson CCI rally in, I think, 2008. They glued it. It failed within one day of leaving Tucson. On mine, the angle is very difficult to move back into position and I can only envision a mechanical repair as you suggest with a rivet or a flat head screw. I have left it un-repaired to date as it causes me no trouble. You are the first I have heard with the same problem.

I think I will fix it with silicon to seal and screws.

Thanks for reminding me that I have this problem.

Hi Smitty,

We have had this happen on both sides of the same slide at different times. Scott removed the piece cleaned off the old silicone, he left the double sided tape. He then put a thin layer of regular "real" clear silicone on both inside surfaces of the angle, reinstalled the angle and then ducted taped the angle in place until the silicone set. Then came back with a very small bead of silicone to seal the top edge of the angle against the slide to prevent water from accumulating.
The first time was about 1 1/2 years ago and is holding well. We were reluctant to use screws since the original installed had avoided them and were concerned they could loosen or be an avenue for water.

Be aware that this piece, if not properly caulked, is a common source of water intrusion into the coach.
Everyone should inspect these pieces of trim on all slides. Try to wiggle them and check the top bead of sealant for gaps or cracks.
When mine came loose, I reinstalled it with 3M 5200 (it ain't going anywhere now!) and installed a screw at the outer end to prevent any possibility of it sliding when the room is extended. While I was in the mood, I recaulked the pieces on all slides and installed another screw where there wasn't one (some had them, some didn't).

Had the same issue about a year ago with our 2007 Inspire. I resealed it and secured it by drilling the end of the strip and fastening it with a screw

Same thing happened to me. I also put small flat head screws in each to prevent a repeat and sealed all edges. None of mine had any attchment from the factory other than the sealant.

We have had 3 of the strips come off. A couple of them got hooked on something and became crinkled. We had a couple made at a local metal shop and used double sided sticky very thing rubber to stick back on. Another piece we just put back on with this rubber strip. We also used sealant @ corners where sides come together before putting strip back on. It has been a couple years and all kinds of temps. and all is ok.

Smitty,

I have experienced the same problem on my 05 Inspire. I used Gorilla Glue and taped the angle up until it dried. It had worked pretty well until just recently and one of them came loose again. I was thinking about contacting one of the excellent sources in the Junction City area for advice too.
Your suggestion of rivets or flat head screws sound like a good answer too.
I'll be watching to see what you find out,

I have had several of these replaced. Chris Snyder in Tucson did the work. He reglued each of the pieces with 3M 5200 and then put 3 rivets in each piece equidistant from each other and the outer and inner ends of the loose pieces. Since Chris did this I have had no problems.

Wanted thank you all for sharing how to fix this. The front deep slide now has 3M 5200' and SS #8 5/8th screws. I probably should have left the non broken strip alone, I don't like breaking good bonded materials. The right angle strip was a pretty hard metal, and just drilling the pilot holes thru, caused the partial separation of the angle from the side. 5200 added along the separated sections, plus into the pilot holes.
Will close it up wit gorilla tape again helping, let cure all week. Clean it up and clear calk the edges.
Back slides are not as deep, they have a joggle at the ends, and have know signs of bonds breaking. I'm going to leave them as is.

Best, and again thanks!
