The black and white back up monitor on our 2000 Allure is slowly "fading" away. Has anyone done a replacement of their unit?
If so, what brand, or model did you use? A general idea of the costs involved? Any thoughts or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I've been meaning to replace our camera/system for awhile and just haven't had the time to do it. I pulled the books on our system yesterday and will start looking into the options. We have an Intec B/W system and I'm pretty sure the camera is the culprit, verrry fuzzy screen. I'm considering changing it to accommodate and input from a computer running our GPS. As my wife says "You can take something simple and make it a real project". We'll see! May just replace the camera and be done with it. Don't know if the camera is replaceable being B/W. If we come up with something interesting will post.

I had some intermittent problems with my camera a while back and was referred to RV Cams, Inc. in Baton Rouge, LA. I called with the intention of buying a replacement and the person I spoke with told me to check some things relating to the grounding before spending any money. I found and corrected a problem and avoided replacement so far.
Any time a business seems more concerned with helping me than selling me something they go to the top of my list. When the time comes for replacement I'll not consider anyone else.

I have a system that the picture is almost unreadable and has limited use. Upon investigating the repair I found the camera was too old (no parts).a new camera would have to found that would mount into the cavity of the old camera, new cable had to run for a color system and the dash would have to modified for the new screen. As you can see this way is not simple, at least for me. I came up with a system, all though not totally aesthetically desirable, was easy to install and was inexpensive. I went to Walmart, purchased a wireless system, for around a hundred dollars. It was easy to install so now I have a new color picture to view.

Our Prev. owner had Camping World install a Color and sound Voyger flat screen with new Camera mounted on roof top. I would of bought a Voyger with the two side camera's. BTW Camping world used new wiring and did a shotty Job. Ken 99 Allure 30356

Here is the less expensive backup camera system I have seen:

We drove to the warehouse and looked at it. It is not the highest quality camera out there, but for the price it is not bad. For install, simple set it on the back of the roof and ran the cable on the roof with tie downs, to the front cowl. Drill hole and run cable down to the dash, though the windshield center pillar. It is better then the b/w camera previous. For a better picture one needs to add many hundreds more $$. It just depends on how much one wants to spend and how good of a picture quality one wants.

Hello Tom,
What was the nature of the problem you found with your system? Was it the monitor, the camera...?
I have had infrequent jumping and/or fading of my picture since day one, but they could never get it to duplicate in the shop. The answer was "We have to wait until it fails".

I would occasionally get jumping and some lines across the screen but more often the thing I noticed was that after running a while then turning the coach ignition off for a fuel stop or whatever the monitor would not come back on when I started back up again. Sometimes off for minutes..sometimes much longer then I'd look down somewhere down the road and notice it back on again. Apparently this was the intermittent grounding problem because since I tightened all connections I could find it's been OK. The work I did was all behind the monitor in the dash. I didn't even expose connections at the camera itself in the back of our closet. It's not completely without it's little quirks and I suspect that repair is not my last but it's OK for now.
Hope your's is as simple a fix.

Tom I also have a Weldex and have had almost the same problem from the moment I bought it (secondowner). When you say you tightened the connections are you talking about the coax looking connections or is there a specific wire that is grounded somewhere and if so where? I unplugged the coax behind the dash, cleaned the connectors then used dielecric grease on them with a little better result. My unit will come on for a while, then go black and may or may not come back on.

I am In the process of replacing my back up camera system.
Bought a AOS7694HD system from RV Cams inc @ www. RVCams.com.
It is a color 4 ch 7" monitor, rear cam and left and right cam all color. side cams are wired to sig lights for auto switching when turning. Has split screen, 2,3,4 way . Complete system about $1200.00. I have installed the rear camera and fed it to the old black and white monitor> WOW what a clean picture, can't Al wait to get all of it installed.
I spliced the new connectors on to the original CC rear to from cable and bought a CH-02 shroud for the new back camera. all of the documents can be down loaded from the Jensen Heavy Duty web site at WWW.jensenheavyduty.com Hope this helps and I will post pics upon completion of project.

We have the same problem. Have noticed it usually happens when we have the heater on. When I turn the Weldex screen off for awhile and let it cool it comes right back on. It may be the something gets too hot.

I don't remember exactly...too much time or too many happy hours since that project maybe. I'll pull the back panel off behind the camera and look again next time I'm out there to see if that jogs my memory.
