Whenever we take our
2001 Magna out of storage we notice that when we get home to load we lose about a quart of coolent from the rear of the radiator. The coolent is not coming from the overflow and it only happens when we run the coach for 15 minutes, bring it to running temp and then turn it off. I had Tim Reed (CCI teck at LD) look at it when we were in Lazy Days last week and he said that there is a gasket at the rear end of the radiator and that is weeping.
Nothing to worry about unless it gets worse so this fall I am going to get the gasket replaced at the factory together with a coolent flush and replacement. Don't remember what the gasket is for but I think it provides access to the inside of the radiator. My problem never happens once the coach is on the road. The weeping is very minor on the road just bad when the coach sits for 2 months and then is started up for 15 minutes. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but I do hear lots of stories about losing coolent and not knowing where it goes. Tim also said there is a wax sensor on the radiator that regulates the fans and that could leak, but that is not where our leak is.

It could be that the gasket is drying out and shrinking a little after sitting for a while. Then after running it swells back to normal size. I haven't heard of this before but the logic seems sound.

I agree that a gasket is drying out and when it gets moist in ceases to leak. But I'm really suprised that you can bring your coach to operating temp in 15 min. at an idle.
When I had CC look into my fan speed, they had me idled for over 30 min. and couldn't get the temp over 140. For 10 more min. we idled it at 1000 rpm and no further increase. However, shortly after getting underway the temp climbs to 180 185 and stays there.
