Has anyone received a letter from Country Coach concerning a defect on the Hurricane heater? I received the letter about two weeks ago.

According to the letter, the manufacturer of the Hurricane heater "believes the problem creates for an overheating condition that could lead to a fire." I have the model 45XL which is the source of heat and hot water. Kinda surprised I haven't seen this posted already. Maybe mine is an isolated unit.

No Rob,

yours is not an isolated unit. I had the change made before my last trip by Craig and his guys. I continue to have intermittent problems with the unit, faulting out and requiring restarting.
Also, it continues to loose fluid.
Good luck

I also got the same letter and had the repairs done immediately since I live in the northeast and relay heavily on my Hurricane heat.

Bill - I also have an 03 Allure and have the same annoying problem of losing coolant. I had the recall work done last week and I still see coolant overflowing into the heating bay. I've cc to discuss and am waiting for a reply.

We just returned from a short trip and continue to see a loss of coolant, also had to do a reset on it again. The boiler just decides to stop firing, you notice a shortage of hot water, just have the two electrical elements providing the source of heat for the coolant. So far, a reset gets it going again, but it is frustrating. We have taken 3 trips so far, two of them since we had the new board installed, and have had problems with the XL45 each time.

Bill, have you removed the breather in the coolant line? Its mounted on the rear wall of the Hurricane compartment, and should be replaced with a 1/4" plug you can buy at any home supply store. That's one of the first things I was advised to do, and it works. Of course the fact that my entire unit was replaced might have something to do with it.

Hi, Walt

Yes, thanks to this great group, I went into the dealer with copies of this problem in hand and had that line plugged. Craig and his guys updated the contral board, so the unit is up to date with the latest and greatest fixes. Like a brother-in-law, it simply chooses to work when it feels like it!

Hi all,

We had the same problem with leaking fluid, so I replaced the black tubing with vinyl and put two hose clamps on the bottom of the overflow tank one up tight against the tank and one just above the nipple. I also took off the breather, etc. and have an appointment next week with CC to replace the board. We have not had any leaks since I did that. This was after I took the coach to Rixen's in Portland and they worked on it. They fixed the outlet by the radiator cap which leaked like a sieve and said they had had to fix a lot of these due to the type of tubing CC used that sometimes they bent the neck of the radiator type connection on the top. They fixed that hole and that spot did not leak, but I continued to had leaks from the bottom of my overflow tank. Good luck to all in getting things fixed.

I did the same thing as you did and had the recall work done, but it still burps out coolant into my heating bay. Capping off the valve did improve the situation but did not cure it for me.
