I have been reading the latest communication about elevated temperature, and the damage it can cause. I do not have a Silver Leaf to accurately determine engine/transmission temp. There was a time that I could have easily purchased the Silver Leaf. Currently, I would like to know if anyone has purchased a system that is basically like the Silver Leaf, and is much less expensive.

If you already have a laptop computer that you carry in your coach, you can get a cable and software from Silverleaf for much less.

Bob,
I will follow-up on the cable and software. I have a very good mechanic, is the installation pretty straight forward that he can do the cable installation.
Thank You very much.

Stan, the install is a DIY. You just need to located the ECM, usually beside your steering column under the dash. The hardest part is laying on the floor, fitting between the seat and under the steering column to spot the ECM cover, usually a gray plastic cap about 3/4 in diameter. You should do this ahead of time so you can count the number of pins required.

There is a plug under or behind the dash.
One end of the cable plugs in there, the other end plugs into your computer. You can download the software for free and preview how it works before you buy the cable. Check the Silverleaf web site.

Check out the Silverleaf VMSpc unit, It requires a laptop, but the adapter is only around $400. Saved my bacon on overheating!!

Stan -
On my 04 inspire the ecm tap to connect to was located in the box panel directly to your left below the tranny selector, etc. while seated in the driver's seat. I ran the serial cable from there under the dash and out the right side of the instrument panel and hook on to the laptop that rides on the snack tray. Works quite well.
