George your next mission, should you decide to accept it, is to drive through Downtown Chicago on I-90/94.

I started to not write this, but it is such a good story I can't help myself.
When I was driving a coast-to-coast 18 wheeler, one of my pick up stops was in Boston at a custom brewery to pick up some designer beer. I had good directions and a GPS to find the way, but one bridge was closed, and the detour had a street that I could not turn on to. As a result, I took that long wheelbase tractor and a 53' refrigerated trailer through the financial district of Boston. I know firsthand how patient and forgiving Boston people are, and I really appreciate it. I had a cop holding one sign away from the side of the trailer when I went through a five or six street intersection.
There was lawyer triple parked to get a latte, and when the trailer got within an inch of his BMW750il passenger mirror, he freaked - serves him right. I might have moved closer a few inches to make it more exciting for him, my finest hour. That was the last time I went to Boston. Pretty town, nice people.
Just watch your mirrors, rely on people that want to help. Go slow when you get in a tight spot and you can go almost anywhere. For an instance of slow, I have moved my coach three feet, set the brake, and gone to the back to evaluate my clearance. I spent thirty minutes wiggling into a buddy's back yard (maybe 60'), and his security lights were just under my awning faring at the tightest point.
When you are in a spot and sweating bullets, just remember it will be a great story to tell later, part of the adventure. Unless, of course, you make your wife mad in the process.

They don't call me Allure 007 for nothin'. I accepted that mission back in the nineties. I was coming south out of Libertyville, IL. Man, I'm not doing that again. At least there was something intereresting to see in Boston. Actually I love Chicago, but best to go there by train.

FYI, for what ever its worth the portion Rt 93 that runs through tunnels under the city prohibits propane. The warning signs are not easy to find they are further up Rt 93 near Rt 95 & 128 and on the other end near Rt 3 and the split for the Cape. I found out the hard way. I was stopped by the state police and "escorted" off the route. I think the only reason I didn't get a ticket is because I had the grand-kids with me. I asked the cop why it wasn't marked and he said it was. I have since driven it in a car and have found it is hard to find the signs but they are there. The no Hazardous Material signs includes propane according to the cop. He said the HZ material route is Rt 95 / 128 around Boston.

Sorry you had a problem with the state police while attempting to drive an RV on I-93 through downtown Boston.
When I recently went through there I did not see any signs prohibiting propane, but I did see signs directing hazardous materials to exit. I looked at the hazardous materials statutes of MA and the federal regs regarding highway transport. It looks to me like hazardous materials warnings apply only to commercial vehicles. involved.
I suspect the officer who stopped you was misinformed about the hazardous materials regulations. Bottom line, you had no choice but to comply with his order and then fight it in court, but doing so would likely not be worth your time.
If anyone has a reference to a law or regulation that would prohibit propene in an RR from traveling I-93 through Boston, I would like to see it.
