We caught fire on our 04 Allure [#31071] on Tuesday Nov 9 on Hwy CA 58 about 30 miles east of Bakersfield CA. It is way to early to tell what the cause was but the general feeling before the fire investigation is finished is that a hydraulic like let go at the top of the hill [see photo] and started the fire. The good news is both my wife and I and the 2 dogs are ok but everything else is a total loss. The tow car is a loss as well from heat damage. We are insured with National Interstate and other CC owners having similar losses said they are good to work with. We are full timers and my wife and I have not decided what we next plans are. Most likely we will rent an apt for the time being.

All our best thoughts. So glad all were safe, as that is what really matters.
Please keep us updated with what you learn ahead. Losing your RV, and your home, is no fun. What you learn and share - may save others. I also would like to learn from your upcoming work with the inusrance company.
Share with us what you can. And understand, my wife and I are more concerned with your adjusting to what must have been such a shock to you all. (All, as we are 'dawg people' too, and they've just lost their home too.) Anything we learn, is secondary to your rapid adjustment and moving forward.

Best regards,
Smitty

Forgot to ask, but what size coach is yours and which engine and how many miles were on the coach? Thanks for your info.

Last year during routine service, it was discovered that the hydraulic hose coming from the reservoir down along the bottom cross member of the engine support was chaffed. It was to the point where the metal casing was exposed and it too was worn.
Of particular concern here is the fact that this hose, and others, are in the vicinity of the exhaust manifold and muffler.
I would recommend checking the hose(s). It won't be apparent by just looking at it, since it (they) are partially hidden. The chaffed area on mine required one to be under the engine support.
I can't take credit for finding the chaffed hose myself, since it was discovered while in for service at Cummins in Coburg.

Sorry for the loss Dean, it's great everyone got out OK. I have worried about just such an occurrence. I replaced all hoses and lines in the engine compartment last December as my coach is a 97. My son is a retired firefighter and he says the most dangerous fluid is hydraulic and transmission fluid.
I'm sure we cannot comprehend the loss you must feel, if we can help in someway from Tucson let me know.

Dean - We had a total loss of our 1997 Allure in May of 1999 to a fire caused by our tow car. We know the feeling you are going though now. We were undecided about continuing on with our fulltiming lifestyle. We decided to continue and now on our 15th year FT. We bought another Country Coach Allure and have never looked back.
