Hi everyone, we were going with family to Las Vegas from Arizona, in our Coach, how embarrassing, the darn steps wouldn't work....and we had to climb in..called our friends with a 2009 Magna, and he said maybe fuse, maybe batteries...SO, we live in small town, only one RV dealer and repair, has big rigs, and maybe times are tough in the repair biz, but the tech said we needed new control panel...over $500...I sort of think we were taken for a ride...we'll see..the steps worked last month...and the batteries have been alittle weak..anyway its not the money its the principle, I heard there is a repair facility in Tucson approved for Country Coach...we will forward the defective control panel to them, and if it is OK, boy my wife will spread the word....and we know the owner of the business here in town..but maybe it was the panel, and if we didn't need the rig ASAP, we would have traveled to Tucson...Anybody else have problems with the steps ? Thanks, Butch

Been there. In our case it was the little plunger switch at the bottom of the door which didn't make contact when the door was opened so the steps didn't come out. Fiddled with it until it worked. Also can fail the other way - steps don't retract when door closed in which case you get warning light. Simple mechanical contact problem. Maybe yours is more sophisticated.

I purchased my 2006 inspire two years ago. On our fist road trip the steps failed. It was the motor. Easy to trouble shoot removed the motor put test leads on it and it wouldn't run. Purchased a new one installed it and all is well. Cost less than $200 for the replacement motor. If I remember correctly it was made by KWikee Steps in Oregon.

Don't feel to bad. The Palins were making the climb in and out of their Lexa, with no steps, on national TV.

First, clean with a scuff pad or pencil eraser, the brass contacts on the hinge side of the door and frame ( 4 and 4 ). Make sure they are working, each having a spring plunger. Wipe down after cleaning. If this has no effect then you need to dig deeper. I have seen the wires on the hidden side of the brass contacts broken. Also fuses Next gets more involved, with checking at the steps for power. My brass contacts have always fixed the steps, key fob and lighting problems.

Well, it was memorable, we were at very nice resort, and my wife had to sit on her rear, on the bottom step to get out !! Hey, in the end, we didn't care !! But we made a grand entrance, laughing !! Even my 82 yr old father in law !! But it does need to get fixed !!

I had an intermittent problem that was corrected by cleaning the electrical contact buttons on the hinge side of the door & jamb...worth a try. Good luck.

ygrps-yiv-565527007 v0003a* {} We had the same thing happen on our unit and it is identical to yours, Butch (2006 40' Inspire). It was the plunger switch at the bottom of the door. Amazing what a little scientific jiggle will do. Good luck.
