Dear Friends,

Why won't my Atwood water heater come on when I press the button for electric, but will come on when I press the button for LP?

In the middle of the two buttons (electric/LP) is a light which never comes on under any condition. Is the electric side locked out?

Thanks,

Gary,

I can't help on why it won't work on electric, however, the only time the red light should come on if the LP does not light. If it tried to fire and there is no ignition it will come on to tell you the LP did not light.

Is the breaker turned on for the water heater? On my 2000 Magna, that is the only control I have for electric operation of the water heater. Next step is to check the ECO on the electric side, On my water heater the heating element, thermostat, and ECO are on the back side of the water heater. I believe newer Atwood's have only one thermostat and ECO on the front side of the water heater. There is a reset button on the ECO that you may need to press to reset. If not the ECO, turn off the breaker to the water heater, remove one of the connections to the element and check across the element terminals with an ohm meter to see if you get a reading. If not, the element is probably burned out.

When we got our coach the water heater did not work and no light but would work on gas. So when we went down to Junction City to get some things fixed they (not CC) checked and the element it was toast so when he pulled it out and it fell apart, so the DUMMYS that had it before me turned it on with one water in it. Now when I light it on gas the light will come on then after it lights goes out, it never did that before I had the electric element side fixed.
