I have 12R22.5 rear tires/tags and am finding out that there are very few options for long haul applications. BF Goodrich does offer a tire and wonder if anyone has had good or bad results with it It is there ST230. I understand the Michelin 12R22.5 is not necessarly a long haul tire. Thanks,
John

From what I have read long haul tires are not recommended for RV's because long haul tires are designed for thousands of miles a week at high speed, 24/7 use, high wear and a short life. The oils and waxes present in tires designed for shorter haul mixed city and highway driving are not present in long haul tires. The long haul tires will dry out faster and require replacement sooner than shorter distance, mixed city/highway driving.
To the trucking industry, 300-500 miles a day is a short haul. Parking for a few days or even months is better matched to tires used for short haul, mixed speed and distance use.

We bought the BF Goodrich ST230's a year ago from Pro Tires in Denton, TX. Call and ask for Pat if you have questions. He recommended them. He does tires on Prevost and Country Coaches. BF Goodrich is now part of the Michelin company. We have about 10,000 miles on the BF Goodrich and in our opinion, the ride is much better than the Toyos. When we told Pro Tire that we had Toyos, he said "you have a Country Coach". So far, the BF Goodrich tires are not showing any premature wear.
If you're in TX, Pro Tires will come to your spot, replace the tires, balance and align front-end if necessary. Excellent service.

Well, I'll be...! Looks like I was wrong. This from Tim at Goodyear.
"Gil, The type of driving that you do with your RV more closely resembles regional service than long haul. So, the G662 RSA (RSA = Regional Service All-Position) and would be my recommendation to you. It is available in the 11R22.5 LR-H size you need. Tim"
Looks like, for me, the regional tire is the way to go.

John,
I've been running the ST230 since April of 2008 and have found them to perform well so far. I have not noticed any problems with uneven wear and they seem to ride better than the original Toyo tires.
I am a workamper and travel long distances then stay put for months at a time. 8 tires cost me $4500 out the door.

Gil,
You raised the issue and received comments/answers. Then you followed up, that isn't wrong, it's right.
IMHO if we relied less on sales people, who are usually there to move what is in stock or get fired, and did our own research - as you did - we would be better off and better educated. Way to go.

Yes, Pro Tire came to our RV site, mounted and balanced all 6 tires, 4 wheel axis alignment and correction, using "computer assisted laser alignment" My husband is a "gear head" - is very picky and was very impressed. Pat and his assistant were very professional. $3850 was what we paid for everything. Pat said "see you in 7 years" and when we need tires again, we will call Pat at Pro Tire in Denton TX.

Truly amazing how this company can pre form alignment on RV pad sites in the field. Why have we spent all that money to do the same and train personal? We could of done it all in the parking lot.
