Since the roof has no paint, what is the proper care to be given to prevent gel-coat bleeding?

I am interested to see the response to this as well. I have a 2000 Allure and the Florida sun is brutal on bare gel coat. I have tried waxing the top, but it has its own set of problems. Slip hazard and tough on the knees and back. Besides it only lasts a couple of months and the chaulking starts all over again with the white streaks down the side. The only recourse is to have inside storage. But, that does not stop it if you use the RV allot like I do and plan to do in the future. Hopefully, someone has a better solution they have discovered.

The only way I know to take care of the roof is to wash it every time you wash the coach and then apply a uv wax every 3 months. If your roof continues to chalk it will take off the clear coat on the sides of the roof not to mention the white streeks. We let our roof go for 2 years before we saw excess chalking and then the roof had to be buffed with an automotive cleaning compound then coated with a uv wax such as 309 that Camping World sells. That was done twice over a 2 month period. Both times we had it done professionally. The cost was $150 to buff and wax, and then $75 to wash and wax. now I wash the roof each time I wash the coach and the wax seems to be holding up, and the coach sits in the SC sun all the time.

Here's one solution to the roof chalking condition.
Using fine steel wool, lightly buff the roof down to approx. 1 inch below where the gel coat starts at the upper sides. Blow and blowoff the residue. Do this after a good detergent wash and rinse. Mask the sides with blue masking tape and newspaper hanging down the sides.
Using a good grade of lacquer (e.g. Napa 7256), lightly spray the top.
A sunny, no wind day helps with the application.

Has anyone applied 303 on the roofs? I have used it in the past on boats and many different surfaces and wonder if it would seal the roof to prevent chalking.

I use a plastic scrubber and 2001. Scrub it on and buff it with a towel. You can use a buffer but it isn't necessary. jerry in NM, '00 Magna.

So far 303 has worked for us. It has been on for 3 months and no chalking, but we will put a fresh coat on in a month.

I just attended a FMCA region rally (Glass Rally ) and in a seminar on Cleaning and Maintenance Inside and Out, they recommended 303 for fiberglass roofs and said that it would last longer than wax. They recommended a good cleaning using a mild soap like Ivery or Dawn before using the 303.
