Last week we had a robust discussion over whether or not you needed to add a clear coat over the 2 coats of Bus Kote. I just finished talking to Ed Shedlock (941-753-7500) from Nationwide Chemical Coating Manufacturers in Florida. This is the company that manufacturers Bus Kote and shipped the product to us in AZ. I told him we had quite a debate going on about the need for the clear coat. I'll try to relate to you the information he gave me.
He said it is not necessary to put on the clear coat. It leaves a hard finish which can crack due to thermal shock. The Bus Kote expands and contracts...the clear coat does not. Now this may never cause a problem, but the possibility of cracking does exist and so they do not recommend putting on that clear coat. He says some people like the shiny look. If that is the case, then you could use the semi-gloss Bus Kote, but it is more expensive. I asked him why they would make a product they don't recommend using. He explained that they make lots of different clear coats (100% acrylic) for lots of different uses...some are modified a bit to use on roofs where trees drop sticky substances, on bricks, on pool decks, etc. He said there is not a 'Bus Kote Clear Coat' per se but rather something called 'permaclear' which has a hard film. It is not the norm to put this over Bus Kote...but again, he said it is not necessary but some people have done it. He said you should not have any chalking issues if you have put just the Bus Kote on according to their directions. OK...that's it. If you have further questions on this...call Ed. He's very easy to talk to and quite accessible. As for me, I'm happy because I don't have to go up on that roof again! Sue 51672

Sue,
I just got off the phone (321-984-9777 - Melbourne, Fl) with Hy-Tech tech support. Two different companies. Two different products. Hy-Tech recommends the clear coat and it is flexible. Hy-tech is made and distributed from Melbourne, FL world wide. Go to the web site and read about the product.

Now this is interesting: We have seemingly have two different trademarked "BusKotes": Nationwide Buskote and Hytech Buskote, from two different Florida companies. How can this be? What are the differences?

SUe:
I sent you the link for the true manufacturer, Hy-Tech sales last week. "Ed" and Nationwide are not the manufacturers of Bus-Kote and the clear product by Hy-Tech is called Flexi Clear.

Ed may be easy to talk but...

One name is hyphenated, one is not. The two spec sheets read almost the same. One claims to be the developer on their website, the other claims to be the developer on the phone (apparently). Sarasota and Melbourne are on opposite coasts of the state of FL.
Could be a divorce took place some time in the past? Couple of restaurants like that around where we live. Both have the same name but are not run by the same people. We were told it was the result of a divorce, one pary got one business, the other the second.
Aside from the Bus-Kote, other products seem to differ.
Or they like to keep us confused. If you like flexible clear coating buy from Melbourne, if not try Sarasota. Come to think of it, there are more flakes on the Sarasota side of the state, that might explain it.

So it now appears there may be two FL companies. The products appear both similar and different.
Still don't know who/what to believe.

Sue,
We are preseenly in Apache Junction at Canyon Vistas RV Resort in space #18. We are visiting RV friends who winter there.
Both our friends and we are very interested in your BusKote project.
If you would allow it, we would appreciate being able to do a short visit to your coach to see the application and speak to you.
We would be as unobtrusive as possible if you would allow us to visit.
Please reply to my email or call my cell any time.
My thanks in advance, and a beverage of your choice delivered.
