I have some tears or holes in the 3m paint protector on the nose of my 2005 country coach magna. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to patch this or if I would need to replace the whole protective coating. Any suggestions will be valued.
Thanks

You might could do it, but I wouldn't recommend it. It would be like trying to repair a defective condom. Better to remove it and put on a new one.

Maybe we should file a lawsuit against 3m in Federal court to get them to replace our protective coatings.
Any shysters out there?

I had some blems in mine. I had a guy in Junction City repair it. He only removed the bad portions. Apparently it is not one big piece but is rather several pieces cut to fit the curvature of the front of the coach.

I did not pay the new coach price for this feature. I know it was a large profit maker, for either dealer or OEM, depending on whom applied it.
It was in sad shape when we bought the coach, and I think that someone in the past hit it with a buffer and cleaning compound. The outside layer is probably not what it was when first applied. It is very soft, and I find that with an hours work of up/down plastic lense cleaning compound, followed by a carnuba wax, it will clean up the looks for a bit...
I plan to keep ours on, until we make our trip to Alaska sometime in the next 24 months. I'll then remove it.
I do not blame 3M for anything. This was an earlier generation on our 2004 coach, and I know they have improved the product two or three times. They never advertised this as a 'life time' product. And, they did not charge the over $1K price to install. Figure it is $100 worth of material costs, and a person with film experience, could prep and apply within 1 to 1/2 hours. Big profits for those that actually apply it.
Will I put on another 3M film? Maybe, but probably not. I doubt I'll put on any film, but will research things when the time comes - and might, if my research makes me feel it will last a bit longer, and cosmetic's hold up longer.
I own 3M stock, and I bought it because I like many of their products. I respect the company.
I know it is frustrating to deal with the removal, and usual paint damage. But it is what it is, and not near as frustrating or possibly dangerous as the Norcold approach to comsumer safety...
Best to all,

When I called 3M about it, they recommended a product that they sold called 3M adhesive remover.

when i ran over a trash can and scared the 3m I have on the bottom five inches of the bay doors I used a heat gun to remove the 3m and some tri-chloral ethylene to remove the sticky adhesive left on the surface. It took the 3M guy at a CC rally to replace the two pieces in about 15 minutes using some scraps he had. He let me slide as I had done most of the work. That was in 06 or 07.
