Lee & Jane,
We will be about 2 weeks behind you heading home to Bellingham, WA and are considering taking 95 to Reno. How is that route? We too are tired of I-5 & 99 (must be the worst stretch of interstate in the country.

Been on all of those roads many times, only during the summer for ely area. Nevada is pretty dry, just need to watch the weather reports. Take your time, did it last July in 40' allure with toad. Also 95 Vegas to Reno, is a great road, lots of long flats straights. Watch out, every little town has a speed cop, signs says 25, better be going 25. Hwy 50 has a few passes, no problem for us. But I was born in the sierra's, so mountain roads are not a issue.

It is a great road to take as we have traveled it a lot as we live in Fallon as someone else mentioned watch your speed limits as there are sheriffs out there all the time and there are places you can pull over and rest.
As far as Hwy 50 goes watch the turns and do not go to fast. I personally do not like to go 50 but that is me.

This route will add quite a few miles to your trip. Ron and I did US 50 from Colorado across Utah and Nevada to our home in Fallon last Spring. Have not taken 93 to Ely. This time of year weather can be a real test. Right now in Fallon it is 69 and a breeze is blowing, but if mother nature is true to course we could have another snow storm anytime.

Ron and I just returned to Fallon from a fairly long southern trip. 95 from Vegas to Fallon is good. There are a few rough patches. If you are coming in from Arizona, the new bridge by Hoover Dam certainly shortens the trip. We usually come into Vega through Henderson and take Blue Diamond out through Pahrump. That way we avoid most of the heavy city traffic.

It is not suppose to snow unless you are going to Reno or higher as I also live in Fallon.
