The freon in my OTR system has now leaked out for the third time since I picked uyp my new coach almost 3 years ago -- all 3 times were quite slow and extended over about 3-6 months with a corresponding gradual drop in cooling capacity until the pressure was to low and it just stopped the compressor from coming on. The repair shop has put dye it in twice now and we have been unable to find any obviouis leaks. I have also run the a/c at least every month to try to prevent seal leakage etc. We believe the leakage is likely in the compressor but before I proceed I thought I'd ask the group for any thoughts or counsel or perhaps similar issues out there.

Compressor seal leaks are very easy to spot with dye. Get educated on how to add yourself and do so. Easy to do with gauge set. Books are easy to find online. Cheap gauge sets at Harbor Freight. Top off each spring. Cheap enough to live with small leak. If dye is not found at any connections or any coils then finding it could be very costly. This is what we do with the same issue on our 97 Magna.

Eric,

I had a similar slow leak for 3 or 4 years. I was able to keep it cooling by adding 134a periodically. I finally took the coach to a good service facility who found leaks at both high and low side hose crimps right at the compressor.

Don't forget the fittings in the bedroom overhead are worth checking out- if you have the over the road air in there.

Eric,

I went through a 3 year nightmare with this due to a number of incompetent techs. A good one spotted it in a few minutes: the fittings at the condenser on the radiator. Look for a little bit of oil there. These get subjected to lots of heat and vibration.

Mine was the same as George's. Leak at a hose crimp at compressor. Found after four years, many refills, and many $$$$ in service.

I had the same slow leak at the compressor the hose to the condenser was replaced after several fitting changes at the compressor BOB 06 intrigue 12047
