I have been fighting a short in my turn signal wiring. I keep blowing the 20 amp fuse. I think the problem is in the turn signal switch or the hazard switch . I have been unable to gain access to them, does any have experience getting into steering column? Blows the fuse when driving, turn signal does not have to be on!! Works great sitting still! Any suggestion?

I would look at the wires as they come out of the column. Look where the wires rub on anything. Also look behind the dash for same. Before going into the column.

I have looked everywhere I can get to. Wiring is in a cable wrap coming out the bottom of the steering column. There are 2 in line 7.5 amp fuses in the dash, I removed the fuses to try to isolate the front half, but the turn signal and hazard switches are still in play. Still think I need to get into column. I have had it in the shop several times and a mobile tech look at it. The only result is money out and the same problem is still bugging me!! No one has gone into the column but the mobile guy seemed to think that was the way to go.

Have you tried to find a new switch assemble? That may be thing to do. Switches do fail, not often. Think I would want to know if one was available and just replace it.
As for wheel removal. Look behind the wheel for screws holding horn button on. Under that should find a nut holding wheel on shaft. Need to mark wheel and shaft to keep alignment. Will need steering wheel puller. That maybe the easy part. Tilt assembly may make it hard to access the wires in column for R&R. That is why replacement with new maybe the way to go. Then it is fixed or look other places for problem.

My 97 just now used pocket knife to pop out horn bottom. All my wiring is exposed. Would make a very easy R&R.

There are many techs who learned that the hard way. I would notch both with a file so there was not a problem with it disappearing.
