I'm replacing my steer axle tires due to weather checking. Strange thing the drive axle tires were installed at the same time and show no checking. I have Michelin XZA3 275/80 LRH (16Ply). I am having a heck of a time finding them in the Tucson area, everyone I tried says they are on national backorder. I can get the XZA3 in LRG (14 ply) which has a reduced load capacity of about 1000lb. I can also get Goodyear RV670's but they are more than 6 months old.
Anyone use the Goodyears on a solid axle CC? I have heard some complaints on these tires so am looking for good input.

Lee, what did 167 owners do ?

Based on my sources if any one on this forum is looking or even thinking about Michelin tires you best plan ahead and order ahead. Prices continue to go up as the last price increase was March !. Sizes and models and sets are (current date codes) hard to assemble. Way back when dealers would give them up and interchange with other dealers. I did not find that relationship when I was tire shopping. And in order to get a discount you had to own a trucking company with high volume tire purchases.
BUT....Michelins are worth the wait.... IMHO AL

I installed Continentals way back when and they did a great job, when Michelin was having troubles with that size, but that was 10 years ago on my Allure.

We bought B F Goodrich ST230's a year ago. Drove them 10,000 miles so far and no problems. Ride better than the original Toyos. We bought them at Pro Tire in Denton TX. B F Goodrich is owned by Michelin. Mid range in price. We are happy with our decision.

Jack,

I put 6 of the Goodyear tires on my 2000 Intrigue in 2006 and they have performed perfectly, nice ride and never regretted the decision. After over 40,000 miles of use they show practically no wear.

Good input I appreciate the response. Glad you getting good results with the Goodyear. Were those the RV670? tires.

Jack,

Yes, the RV670s. I told the dealer they had to be fresh and the date on the tires indicated they were less than three months old. Not sure it is as easy to do that now.

We had just under 20K on the Good Years RV670's when we sold the Bounder for the CC. No problems, no rivering, etc. Ride was nice. Went with the Mich's this time around, but had no problems with with the Goodyears.
If you make it a condition of purchase, then check them before the install, they can find you fresh dated tires. Doubt most people bother to ask, so for those few that do, they can usually have a fresh batch sent in from the distributor. Our Mich's were all within three weeks of each other. Oldest was 13 weeks old.

I'm planning on replacing my drivers and tags with sumitomo's. They are highly rated for trucks and the dealer has put on other coaches with no problems. Any comments?

I'm going with Michelin XZA3 275/80 LRG (14) ply) fresh stock 0911 date code, found in Tucson at $625.00 each out the door. Will lose about 1000# on the front axle, but I'm well under the axle weight loaded so it won't be a problem.

I bought four Firestone tires today for my drive tires. I got them from Parkhouse tire and paid 487 each - that does not include all the other stuff. The Firestones are USA made and about 1/3 less in cost compared to replacing the Michelins I had. I would have paid 10% more, but not 1/3. I have the really large 315 Michelins on my steer tires and in two years when they need to be replaced I likely will be picky.
