Newbie to CC and diesels October purchased 1999 CC Allure 36 Cummins ISC. Looking thru old paperwork the previous owners complained about poor Dash A/C temps for cooling. Have seen others on this or other forums complain also (not all CC). Have started replacing radiator due to rust, the tubes are fine but fins falling out I can with one finger push Bic pen through fins back to front. Bigger job than I wanted to tackle but now am half way across stream and there is no going back. The reason I get into these things is I want all hoses/clamps replaced and it seems the cost just gets out of hand when a shop starts doing this kind of repair. While being a poor mechanic if I could not loosen a hose the saw-all did quite well and now the radiator is off to the radiator shop and they will pressure test the CAC which seemed ok. I have numerous cuts, bumps and bruises but no trips to a medical facility so far. Now time to order new hoses, clamps, fluids and filters.
Since the Dash A/C was not working when I purchased so I plan using some of my radiator saving on reworking the dash a/c. Does anybody know if I can oversize the condenser to help with the a/c temps? One problem many RV's have with diesels is that if their cooling fan runs on temperatures alone the extra volume of air will not kick in much. Wonder if an electric fan behind the condenser and if front of the CAC would do the trick, would tie it to the a/c so if a/c compressor is on fan is on, has anybody done this? Not much room on a CC but I think I can get a fan to fit. Some coach were adding an item to the hydraulic control (thermo valve) to kick in the hydraulic fan if the a/c is on, does this work well? My hydraulic fan is temperature only no electric control. Still would like to oversize the condenser, can anyone enlighten me? Old Scout had a post on generally the same topic dash a/c, help lead a newbie out of the woods.
