Title: Best source for sealed house and cranking batteries?

Our cranking batteries are Cat brand and are sealed. They seem to be working fine but I cannot find a date code so I assume they may be original (We have a 2000 Magna with the C10).
The house batteries are conventional vented 8D and we want to replace them with sealed maintenance free. Question, what is the best source for replacement and what brand would you buy?

Thanks,
Steve

Starting battery from NAPA, currently very good pricing and warranty anywhere in North America. Lifeline ADM for house power, benefits include 50% faster recharge and sealed completely never needing any maint. 5 year warranty, 2 years longer then flooded.

Steve, it would really help if we knew where you are. I can tell you of a good battery place if you are in the Los Angeles area but that doesn't do you any good if you are in Florida.

Are there cranking battery options that are sealed that cost less money than the Lifeline that we plan on using for our house batteries?
I can buy 8D batteries locally for under $200 each but they are a conventional vented battery. Is venting a problem for cranking batteries? Our Cat cranking batteries are not vented.

Steve,

My cranking battery is a vented conventional 8D, same as my house batts. It is 5 years old. No problems so far. Just normal maintenance. I just make sure that the plates are wet with distilled water at the same time that I am checking my house batts..

Steve

There are sealed (maintenance free) batteries. My CAT has two sealed standard Interstate Workaholic sp? starting batteries. I am using four Deka 8D's (Schwabb) for my house batteries. They have worked fine so far.

Title: Series GPL 4 vs. GPL 8 Life Line batteries

Question, can we use the smaller capacity GPL 4 instead of the GPL 8 series.
We don't do a lot of dry camping, have a large solar panel, and have LED TVs. As I look at the specs, it appears there is about a 20% decrease in performance measured in minutes of amp usage. Also, the main size difference is the height/thickness (about 2 inches) which I assume will not cause a problem with installation. Also, the GPL 4 series are each about 30+ pounds lighter.

Your thoughts?

We don't do a lot of dry camping, have a large solar panel, and have LED TV's. As I look at the specs. it appears there is about a 20% decrease in performance. Also, the main size difference is the width so a spacer will be required (2X4) to keep the batteries separated.
Advantage to GPL 4...$90 less each and 30+ pounds lighter but will require a 2x4 or 2x6 spacer.
Advantage to GPL 8...20% greater capacity and no spacer required but heavier.
As to cranking, I can buy the original Cat Maintenance Free for $300 each.

As always, thank you for your thoughts! Steve

Steve,

There is no reason for you to not use series 4 batteries in place of series 8.
