Hi Everyone,
We will be traveling from Reno NV to Las Vegas, NV in a week or so, and were looking for a different route than US 95.
We were thinking of traveling south on US 395 from Garnerville NV to Bishop CA and points south, heading east to Barstow and on into LV. Does anyone have a thought on the condition of the road and traveling suggestions for a 40 ft coach with toad.
We are looking for cooler travel as well.
All suggestions, thoughts, or experiences on the same route would be appreciated, Thanks,
Jerry Keller

When you get into Bishop I suggest spending the night. Take your toad up into the mtns there. They are beaytiful. I did a week fishing trip there in the mtns. the lake I fished at was at 10k ft elevation and the campsite was at 9k ft. It was awsome.

Can only answer a few of the questions. We ran from Reno to San Diego late Septermber 2010, in our 40'. No problems from the size front. 395 had some work going on we hit one nasty 'trough' at high speed. (Looks like the contstruction crew was short enough asphalt for about an 18" section across the full road way. No markings, and did not see it until we were on top of it. Hit it at about 50mph, and boy did it shake the dickens our of the coach. Watched the CRV 'bounce' pretty good too!). Might want to check CALTRANS to see if work is still going on this much later...
It was hot then, so suspect hotter now. But, relative compared to your other route, probably cooler...
Biship, Convict Lake, are al nice areas to stop for a night... We turned South on 15 off of 395 - so can't help you with road to Vegas from 395...
Best,
