CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A RV MECHANIC IN ELKHART INDIANA OR CLOSE

I've used Duncan RV Repair, they do good work. They also do a lot of work for Newmar.

It sounds like your problem is the infamous broken shear bolt.

Stan,
Is your engine running? If not it should be. Let your batts charge up a little with your generator and leave it running. Tie you house and chassis batteries together with the boost switch and then try to move you slide. The symptom your describing could be from a lack of power getting to the pump and/or solenoids.

I sorry I was assuming it was a hydraulic slide. If not you probably have a broken bolt.

Stan,
You should be able to find help.
If you can't, call me and I can talk you thru checking the sheer pin.
I had the same problem in a remote area.

Stan,
Have you looked in the compartment below at the motor to see if the shaft is turning. Could be a sheared bolt which you could get at most hardware stores. You should be able to get it in manually.

Try Elite rv repair . They are on Cassapolis st. about 2miles south of toll road. I had some work performed there earlier this year. They are a preffered repair shop for c. c.

Stan,
Be sure if you can that they use the shear pin made for the problem. I have used grade 8 bolts, however, they will not stand up to the use as the made for application shear bolts. Kevin Waite in Junction City OR. says he has some on hand. They are difficult to get. I have 2 grade 8 bolts in mine at this moment.
I will assume it the main driver side slide as these are the ones that break on mine. I had Fountain RV in Lakewood, FL. put all new gears, shaft, and align my slide and I'm still breaking shear bolts. I would be sure who ever you have do the work that they know and understand how these slids work

I tried everything that was suggested but the final answer was to have someone come and replace sheer the bolt and everything is ok.

Jan,
We've spent 3 winters in the bus. There are lots of factors to consider with a winter stay. Part I of a two part article is here: http://www.muniac.com/Winter_P1.html (http://www.muniac.com/Winter_P1.html) Perhaps you will find it informative and helpful. Winterizing usually implies taking the bus off line and preparing it for winter storage. I don't think that it what you are inquiring about. In our situation we experienced temperatures of -20F. These lasted only a couple of days. Often temps wouldn't go above 5F during the day. Negative numbers at night. We made it through the winters but not without some problems. Good luck and treat winter stays with respect. Avoid them if possible.

I have for about three days. Make sure the thermostat in the heated plumbing bay is functioning and high enough to keep the plumbing from freezing. I go skiing and attend football tail gating parties at Washington state university in the the winter and the coach does not have any problems in sub zero...EXCEPT...
The most expensive part of being in sub zero temps for me was that the awnings over the slideouts froze because they were wet when I put them in. When I expanded the slide outs, the awnings did not roll out and I seriously did a FUBR on the awning arms and caused one of the slideouts to chip my tile floor as the floor lip slightly tilted and caught the edge of the tile floor.
Other than that, condensation inside the motorhome was an issue so I had to leave some vents open and run the heater longer to keep warm. I have a dehumidifier that works well but pretty much requires me to either run the generator or be hooked to the grid.

There's a t-stat in side the plumbing bay? I have had my plumbing bay apart and have only seen a heat duct in therte.
