How often do you defrost your freezer? With all the rain in the east, humid days seem to be causing our freezer to accumulate lots of frost. It takes about 2 weeks for the frost to get about an inch thick (or more) in the top compartment of the freezer and accumulate on the top of the freezer door too. When it gets this bad, I start to worry about the ice cracking the plastic door back and we are forced to defrost it again. Our coach is only 9 months old and the door seal seems to be very tight.
Does defrosting the freezer every 2 weeks in humid weather seem normal? How often do you defrost your freezer?

We were in Iowa last summer where it was pretty humid. Our freezer needed defrosting about every two weeks also. Either we have the same problem or that is normal. Right now, we are in South Dakota, having been here since May, the freezer has been defrosted once.

We have the side by side in our Allure, and there is a drain plug at the bottom of the freezer side to drain the water when defrosting.
The salesman advised us to make sure that plug was in securely so air would not leak into the freezer, causing excess frost buildup.
If you have an over/under type fridge, do you have a similar drain plug?

Yes, Bill, we have the same side-by-side Dometic Elite with the drain plug in the bottom. We always have the plug in to eliminate any source of air entering the freezer.

We noticed the same problem with our 2000 Allure side by side. Wife noticed ice build up in top compartment where she kept her ice cream and it was not getting hard. I found my problem being caused by a freezer door shelf being positioned in line with the ice maker bin.
Take another look at your door seal and see if you can push on the lower part of the door and cause the seal to seal better. If you can, there is likely a door shelf in front of the ice maker bin.
There is supposed to be a label on the freezer door to warn against positioning a shelf in that location. There was none on my door. I repositioned the shelf in another slot on the door and problem went away.

You mentioned a "freezer door shelf". My freezer has no shelves on the door. It is a Dometic Elite side-by-side model. The refrigerator side has shelves on the door, BUT the freezer has no shelves on the door.
