Anyone have any suggestions for a campsite in or around Yellowstone National Park.

We like the Grizzly RV Park just outside the entrance of West Yellowstone. Nice park, full hook ups, 50 amp, large sites, and West Yellowstone is a nice little town.
Here's their website: www.grizzlyrv.com

We stayed at Yellowstone Edge RV Park north of the park about 30 miles. The park sit right along the Yellowstone river. It is located in Emigrant, MT.

We spent two weeks at FISHING BRIDGE which is right in Yellowstone. Nothing fancy but the most convenient to all sections of the park.

Coming in the West entrance is a nice drive by itself. The park is very large. By coming in from the West, you can break out in different sections of the park, doing one section per day.
If you drive, get out and look at major areas, then keep on going, you can sometimes hit 2, maybe three sections or 'loops' a day.
If you get out and take small hikes along the way, then one section/loop can take a full day.
Look at the maps of the park roads. You will see almost a four section grid of loops. The West entrance allows pretty much a middle jumping point to choose a grid or two per day.
If you can fit, and dry camp too. You might want to look into Madison camp. Still close enough to run into West Yellowstone.
We really liked our stay at Grizzly, and will visit again.
Hard to go wrong - as it is all good! Smitty

Just spent 6 nites in early June at KOA in DoBois, WY as base camp for Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, and Grand Tetons. Still quite a drive away, but a true western town that was a wonderful experience. Once the locals new you were spending time there, not just 1 nite on your way to Yellowstone, we didn't meet a stranger....they were extremely friendly and genuinely please to accomodate. Excellent restaurants, shops, etc. Would go back to visit again. We spent 3 days exploring the surrounding DuBois area, when we originally expected to be making day trips to the afformentioned areas.

For those looking for a quiet inexpensive camp ground near Yellowstone Park -- You might
consider Red Rock RV Park in Island Park, ID. It is about 14 miles west of West Yellowstone
and the west gate of Yellowstone.

Look through the web site -- you may find it is the gateway to your summer of fun and the
region.

Stan,
We just stayed there not more than two weeks ago and would recommend the Grizzly RV Park. Very nice on the north end....

Thank You for all your suggestions. Grizzly was the over whelming winner. We selected the Second Choice Fishing Bridge ( Private Camp ), located on the entrance from the East. We are entering from the East on Hwy 90 .

Stan,
You wont be disappointed. Grizzly is a full campground with all the goodies but Fishing Bridge is right in the middle of everything. Makes touring the park a lot easier and certainly shorter. Be sure to talk to the rangers to find out where the wild life is hanging out.
