We will be traveling to the Puget Sound area of WA. from Ames, IA. Mapquest shows traveling US 212 through the southeast corner of Montana connecting back with I-90 near Billings Montana. Have not traveled this section before and looking for input if I should just stay on I-90.

We have taken 212 in Montana, no problem, enjoyable, lots of Pronghorns out in the fields. Nice drive. We like the back roads.

Thanks for the info. We like back roads ourselves. Can't see much if you just use Interstates.

We like US-212 too.
HOWEVER: friends who took the route (eastbound) recently report that it is being chip-sealed. In spite of slow-speed pilot car control, they had significant toad and coach paint chipping. After checking the latest road construction reports yesterday, they are planning to take I-90 on their return trip tomorrow.
Check local road construction conditions (South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana) before you take this route! --

If it Montana and it is summer it is road construction time.
