Leaving Saturday early AM to drive to Oregon Motor Coach from north of San Francisco. Looks like the pass will have snow chains required. I'm looking to drive 101 to Cresent City, go up the Coast to Flourance, then to Junction City. Any real major issues with this route? Know its 100+ more miles but no snow.
Thanks

Suggest you cut over at Reedsport through Drain to freeway. Better roads. Going through Florence is OK, roads slower. Either way gets you there.

Driven it many times in a 36" as well as 42' coach, you should have no real problems, but your average speed to Eureka will be about 50 and from Crescent City to Florence about 38. And I guess about the same to OMC. All depending on how wet the roads are and if there is any flooding near the coast.

We just pulled in to Benbow RV on our way home from OMC doing the reverse of your plan. We came the coast route to avoid the snow too. 101 is a good road, lots of 4 lane and passing lanes on the hills. Not much traffic north of Eureka this time of year. There are a couple sections along the Oregon coast that are a little rough, but no big deal. TWI's average speeds are very close.

We usually drive from Coos Bay area up to Florence and over to OMC. While the road from Reedsport through Drain is a very good road, and we do take that road on occasion when going to Eugene, it is easier for us to go to Florence and over to Junction City, avoiding the Belt Line and traffic.

Each has pro's and con's. Reepsport to freeway, lots of passing lanes. You may not use but those following love them and wait for them. I like because I can get around the slower drivers. Freeway is a nice respite from the slower two lane roads. Good freeway all the way to 99 and it is 4 lanes into Junction City. OMC is not far north of the Beltline 99 exit. And don't forget the great Elk viewing area just out of Reedsport.
Florence over, passing lanes few and far between. Then there is the traffic from Veneta to Eugene, can be very dense, depends of time of day. Oh and don't forget the terrible road from Florence to Mapleton, very roller coaster. Not a nice road at all. Unless taken slow it will shake things up.
To each there own. Personnel I choose the Freeway to Reedsport as a better and easier to drive road i.e. more relaxing and scenery is very nice. Go one way up and the other back, then next time you will know which one you prefer.

I drove the Reedsport thru Drain twice last year for the first time in over the years of making trips Junctions City. It really is shorter faster and more enjoyable and the scenery is nice. But as we normally spend a few days in Florence, before going to Eugene we never had considered this route, before. The road is better and makes arrival at Deerwood RV park much easier as it is located south of Eugene and Springfield. Its a great smaller family owned park with only 75 spaces and is normally a grown-ups park only exception being high tourist season.
