We're taking a week to go down to Gulf Shore, Alabama and are looking for suggestions for campgrounds in the area. Also, any advice on a route to take from Racine Wisconsin would be appreciated.

As a former WI/MN resident I've been that way more than a few times. AVOID CHICAGO!
If it were me I'd go west to I-39, then south to Peoria and I-55 toward New Orleans. MS has some nice State Parks along I-55 and there are also nice State Parks on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, and close to New Orleans.

Looks like Gulf Breeze got the best reviews on www.rvparkreviews.com (you can read the other reviews there). There is also a state park, but might be booked up this time of year. Enjoy! '04 Allure 33'

Others may suggest there are better parks somewhere but for us, the nicest we've found anywhere is in the Gulf Shores area. A beautiful facility, friendly staff and great proximate locate to many area attractions...we plan to return in the near future.

Also avoid I-55 through Memphis. Take I-40 across the Mississippi, and then I-240 south to re-join I55.

I'm not current on the best routes but before going to Gulf Shores I will plan ahead a little better. We too plan to head back to Heritage after January 1.
Has an interesting challenge last spring passing through Mobile. The primary GPS that I was watching wasn't set to bus and it sent us on a route with a tunnel of only 12 foot vertical clearance. We had enough warning to pull off but into an area that I would preferred to avoid. Then on to I-10 and through a higher tunnel.

I highly recommend the Bella Terra, just south of Folley, Al. It's about 5 miles to the beach. Fantastic setup for your RV. We spent a week there and they had several events at the club house to enjoy. As for best route. Racine, Chicago (late at night!), Indianapolis, Louisville, Nashville, Bham. All interstate, but it's a long drive from Racine.

Gee Lee. Going from Racine to Peoria is going to adds some miles to his trip. I hate to drive Chicago during the day. I've done it after midnight, and no problems or heavy traffic.
