At my last two outings, the wind were strong and the plastic wind sensors of the awning retract sounded like it was coming apart and on its last leg. has anyone experience this with their whirley -gig. It was so noisey I considered going up there and taping it so it would no spin.
Can I spray some lubericant on the shaft. Also it would nice to know the wind veloscity. Do anyone sells a monitor that plugs into the system?

Factory settings were 22 mph, control box allows some adjustments. Broke mine and Chris Snyder in Tuscon was able to get replacement. Skip...#11329 Intrigue

Mine had spoon break off last year. New anemometers are available from Girard for about $130. When I replaced it, the mystery wind howl that I had tried to chase down for years stopped. The old ones have bushings. New ones have sealed bearings.

I wired mine so it wouldn't spin. Rarely use the awning.

Assuming it's a Girard anemometer (i.e., whirley-gig) of the original variety circa 2002, there is nothing that you can do to quiet it down because it is the worn out cheap nylon or plastic bushing that they used inside. Early on I had Girard replace my anemometer because of this noise problem but they replaced it with the same cheaply made variety. They said I could upgrade to the later model that had a better bearing mechanism but because it also had a different electrical interface with the system, I would have to spend several hundreds of dollars to modify the rest of the system. I opted to just stay with the cheap anemometer and when it gets too noisy on a windy day, I use a rubber band to stop it from spinning and anchor the rubber band to the nearby air horn. The 3-arm cantilever awning isn't worth a damn anyway even in light breezes and it certainly isn't worth a damn when it rains so it only gets used very seldom when the sun is beating on that side of the coach and when there is no wind or no rain. Awnings have come a long way I suppose since 2002.

Can I spray some lubricant on the shaft. Also it would nice to know the wind velocity. Do anyone sells a monitor that plugs into the system?

Steve, perhaps you were misinformed: Girard has two different new ones. One was fully compatible with my 2002 no mods.
