I have a 2000 Magna with a Caterpillar C10 Engine.
The Cat ID (Caterpillar Information Display) has stopped working. It will appear to come on when I start the engine, then shortly thereafter it will flash a few times and go dark. I have checked the connections and the system is getting power. My fear is that the unit has gone bad and needs replacement. In the case of replacing, is this a plug an play type unit or is there some programming required. Also, there is a memory chip that can be removed and used in a replacement. That seems to be the only part that can be accessed.
Has anyone had the experience of replacing a Cat ID? Thanks.

Are you talking about a silverleaf unit? Kevin Burns

No, it is a Cat ID. I believe the Silverleaf came after that. My unit was built in late 1999.

I'm having the exact same problem with my 99'Magna.

After talking with a Caterpillar Tech on the Caterpillar RV Engine Support Line 1-877-777-3126 and the service manager at the local Caterpillar dealer here in Springfield, MO, the consensus was that the unit had gone bad and needed replacement. I purchased a new Cat ID and plugged it in and it works just fine. It was a plug & play situation. It was easy to remove the dash panel and remove the monitor from the dash. Then I unplugged the old unit and plugged in the new unit. I would recommend calling the Cat RV Engine Support Line first. The Tech I spoke with was very knowledgeable. I hope this is helpful to others experiencing similar problems.
