I did some research and it seems turbine motors are predicted to last between 3,000 and 5,000 hours. Mine crapped out at about 4,400 hours, almost in the middle of its MTBF. If your Webasto unit has an hours meter on it (mine does) it might be a good thing to check. Perhaps it will enable you to schedule a replacement at a convenient time to avoid a repair at an inconvenient time. In my case the motor's case was swagged and sealed making it impossible to repair. The parts that failed amount to about $10 give or take. As mentioned, a $400-$500+ part should be doing better. Perhaps other models have rebuildable motors. I can only present one instance of a repair. I hope it helps someone else.

Scott,
The turbine motor on our Webasto unit also failed and the burner started belching black smoke - it required replacement at almost exactly 4,400 hours too. Your recommendation to maintain a check on the run time hours is a good one.

Mine failed at 2,800 hours. It's easy to replace but, at $445, expensive.
