Hello All,

We were camping out at the dunes recently, and while hunkered down in the RV during a wind storm, my sister in law forgot about the elements outside when she opened the door to exit our rig. The wind took the door handle right out of her hand and hyperextended it as far as it could. The door used to rest at around 80 degrees, and I always thought to myself, it'd be nice if the door actually opened up to a full 90 degree angle. Be careful what you wish for :) It now opens up to roughly 110+, but the worst part about it, is there is this god awful sounding "click" every time the door opens and this separate hinge (pictured in this thread) reaches a point on the door frame where it scars/gouges the inside frame and then clears it. I have video of it I can send to anyone, but the forum won't seem to let me post the video from my iPhone.

Any ideas on how this can be repaired? It looks like you'd have to completely disassemble the door in order to get to the inside mounting point of this hinge arm in question. The other end is mounted on the door framing and is easy to access. It's attached with a grommet or something of the sort, but there is about an 1/8" play on this end of the hinge mounting point....
Thanks in advance for any helpful information :)
*I'm unsure how this forum allows me to post pictures to a thread, so I suppose I'm not asking for a little assistance on how to post up these pics and/or video. Is it possible to do this on this forum like it is on all the others?

Thanks!

That means you have broken the center door check & it needs to be replaced, I have the new upgraded stainless steel door check if you are interested. Feel free to contact me at my personal cell number or email address.

Thanks for the prompt response Kevin.
I forgot to add what coach I have. It's an '08 Inspire 360, and I think it has the slightly wider optioned door (bought it used, so not positive).
Does this "center door check" still pertain to my application? I wonder if mine is in fact the stainless version since it's a newer rig....
The outside mounting point seems simple enough, but how the heck would I get in and remove the old and mount the new door check where it sits inside the door frame? Thanks again.

Did not know you had an Inspire, so the stainless steel Entry Door Check will NOT work for your issue. Feel free to contact me if you like.

May I ask which "Dunes" you were at during this wind storm?

Hi,

My 05 Inspire did the same thing but yours may be different. Yes, you have to take the interior side of the door off and I discovered that the door check wasn't actually broken but the "roll pin" restraint had dropped out and was laying in the bottom of the door (inside).
If you don't want to take it apart I'm sure Kevin can take care of it if you are near Junction City.

Why yes you may :)

We live in Southern California and frequent Glamis Dunes about once a month during the winter months, and early spring...
It's a blast, as long as you don't go on holiday weekends...
