We will be heading up to the Grand Canyon for a few weeks and wondered if anyone has a recommendation for a good campground in the areamthatnwe could stay at for a week or more. Would like something nicer than an overnighter.

Roger,
On the rim. Even if they say the campsite on the rim is full, go there anyways. They always say its full and I have been able to get in every time. I did however have to pay for a larger site then I required, but it was worth it.
The alternative is 10 miles south of the rim (4 miles south of the park) in Tusayan.
Enjoy,
Michael

Roger,
Just got back from that area last week. We stayed the the Grand Canyon Railroad RV park in Williams. It is somewhat of a large parking lot with spaces and most of them are pull thru. While there for 4 days we scouted out the other RV parks in Williams and the rest of them were dirt and rock pads. That was 2 KOA's and two other private owned RV lots.. since we were there during Easter Break there was alot of people. Did not have time to scope out the RV park at the Grand Canyon, just heard it was kinda narrow pads, hopefully someone else in the group can enlighten you to this location.
To get back to the GC RV Park, each place has it own picnic table. That is about it.....since the RV park is only about 5 yrs old the trees are still small. The RV park is clean and if U have any Children with U, there is a play ground, basketball and other things for them to do. The location also has a kennel for animals, so you can leave them for the day and you have some comfort for their safety.

We enjoyed the Williams KOA too and are not big fans of KOA in general. They are picky about the sewer hose not laying on the ground and having a threaded connection due to zealous enforcement of some regulation??? Williams is a neat little town with several good restaurants.
Also enjoyed the NP campground on the North Rim the previous week. Definitely two different experiences, depends on what you are looking for.

Check out the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in Williams. I have stayed there and it was quite nice (lot of hardscape though). The town of Williams is close by. You can ride the train from the rv park right into the South Rim. Makes a nice day trip. The next day we drove into the park. It's about 30 some miles. I checked out the south rim campground in the park and would rate it a 3.5 out of 10. Maybe they have improved it over the last year, but it wan't in very good shape when we went through Bill Englund

If you want to experience the Canyon you need to be at the Canyon. The sunrises and sunsets are the most spectacular part of the day and staying in Williams doesn't give you that experience.
The campground is not great and not horrible.
