RV lane was jammed so went to the truck pumps. Card would not work at the pump--had to go inside. They wanted a dollar guesstimate before turning the pump on or swiping the card. At first did not take my loyalty card. Made them redo it. Had to go back inside to get a receipt for the actual amount and hopefully the original guesstimate swipe will be credited Then I did get 3 cent discount but not cash price. Probably won't get the Penfed 5% either. In general they were a real pain in the butt.

Hi Lyle,

Feel your pain. I wrote an email about this a while back about Flying J going downhill and not getting the best price on diesel anymore. I stay away from them now that Pilot owns them. I use the app called "Gas Buddy" to find the best prices on diesel now ... it rarely is a Flying J these days.

Lyle & Rick,

I am like you guys. I avoid Flying J & Pilot unless absolutely necessary. The F J used to be my first choice years ago but, no longer. Their prices do not compete even after discounts. Occasionally I purchase propane.
I also use www. Gas-Buddy (http://www. Gas-Buddy). That web site seems to be the best and most reliable as the info is submitted by actual users with the day & time of purchase shown.
BTW, Lately many Sam's Clubs have been very low cost (of course membership is required). They are often busy but, lanes are generally easy in & out at the CA locations that I have used. However, be aware that all Sam's locations do not have diesel pumps. Check ahead.

Lyle & Rick & other CC'ers,

Found that out about Pilot and Flying J when I went to Quartzsite last January. Will also use more of Gas Buddy from now on! Too Bad! Still! They are still a bit better if you fill up outside of California.

PFCU only good at retail pumps. Lost rebate on several thousand $ of fuel going to truck pumps.

I use the Pilot RV Plus card. It works great at both truck and RV pumps. Never have to go inside and I also get the cash price minus .06 a gallon discount.

I got so irritated with truck stops that I got a Pacific Pride card ( commercial fueler), no hassle, easy to get into, never wait in line and they are almost everywhere, They have a motorhome program and I love it. They supply a location directory that make life easier as I travel.
