Title: Using truck pumps at truck/Pilot stops

I often go to the truck side even if they have an RV side because I am not comfortable with the space for turning when I leave. When I use the truck pumps where they almost always require me to go inside, my wife or I go in and leave our driver's license while we fill up. We NEVER let our credit card out of sight (even at restaurants) and the cashiers accept the driver's license as collateral. It is hard to make an accurate estimate of how many gallons I need. When I make a stop for fuel I try to find the best price in the area and want to fill up so I don't have to make frequent stops.

Gene,

Consider getting the Flying J/Pilot frequent fuel card, it's free. Once your signed up with "pump start", you don't have to go inside until done fueling. It's nice not to have to make two trips through the grease and oil, know what I mean!

Tom,

Even with the FF card with J, you have to go inside with the credit card. Yes?

From their site: Using the Good Sam RV Plus card:
RV, Auto, and now even Truck Diesel lanes. You can pay at the pump and fuel as much as you want. There are no transaction limits like with a credit card. Swipe your card and fuel. It's that simple.

6 cents off for gas, 8 cents off for diesel.

Also found this on the Pilot Flying J website: RV discounts available at Truck Diesel Lanes ONLY when you use the Start the Pump procedures.
So I guess the procedure is that you insert your My Rewards card to start the pump, then you go inside to pay with your RV Plus Card??

Guess I'm still confused!!

and this:

Do I have to come inside and prepay at the truck diesel lanes? No. Since the RV Plus Charge Card is also a method of payment, you can pay at the pump without having to come inside. This is true for not only the truck diesel lanes, but the auto and RV lanes as well.

Lonny and Diane, you insert your P/FJ My Rewards card to start the pump and proceed to full up any amount you want, then you go inside to pay with any credit card, no $$$ limit. That gets you the cash price, minus some cents, can't remember how many (1? 3?).
That Good Sam's Card . . . is it 8 cents off Cash or Credit card price?

That is the way I understand it as well. You cannot scan your credit card at the truck lane pumps. You have to go inside and pay. The problem with that is for those of us who have a cash back on fuel purchases. Many of the cash back cards require the transaction to be completed at the pump. My PenFed Visa pays 5% cash back on all fuel purchases at the pump, but 0% if paid inside.

Folks,

I used my RV Plus credit card today. In truck lane, swipe card, enter pin, fuel as usual, go in for receipt or not your choice. Discount was 6 percent. Depending on your monthly use can go up to 8 percent. This pump was new style pump. All P/FJ may not have new style pump. Remember to show your card if you eat at Denney's for 10 % discount! I fueled in Brunswick, Ga.

Yes you do, but at least it's only one trip. FYI, you have to swipe the FF card at the truck pump, not a credit card for pump start.

Hi Vick,

Does the RV Plus credit card give you 6% or $0.06 off the price per gal?

Say hello to Linda....

Some where around a year ago, Pilot/FJ came out with a procedure of the RV Card, You had to go to their Site and register your FJ RV Card., then they would activate it so you could get the discount at the RV Pumps Only.
If you wanted to use the Truck Lanes you could Register Your Visa Card, did not have to be their Card, Then you could use Your Visa to Turn on the Truck Pumps, and get a discount there. I have not used the Truck Lanes.
I have the RV Frequent Fueler Card and I did register and I have use the Card at Several Pilot/Fj's. You are suppose to get the Cash Price + discount for the Card, I am not sure if things have change since then. This was when Pilot first took over Fj.

You must insert the My Rewards first when at the truck pumps. When fueling a car or anything else at the auto/RV pumps, you insert a credit card first. I learned this while crossing the country both ways last fall at the time they were making the change over. When I didn't get the direct discount, my wife called Flying J headquarters (they still had a phone number then) and talked to someone in accounting who credited our credit card for the missing discount. By the end of the trip, everything seemed to be working fine...insert Rewards card first to start pump and then insert to credit card. No need to ever go inside when everything worked as it was supposed to work. As I recall, the total discount was $.09 form the credit price posted. But, haven't used them since then, so I'm not sure what is working now...this was their plan after the merger.
I always use the truck lanes for the high flow nozzles. 100+ gallons takes a long time otherwise. Greasy, dirty, sleazy often, but I'm usually in and out pretty fast.

Marvin,

I have only traveled about 170,000 miles in three diesel coaches and used FJ most of that time. Yes my card works! If the reader is "inop" then it won't read anybody's card. Got it? Lyle Wetherholt
