Not an expert in that area of easter Yellowstone, but:
When going through Cody WY, be sure to visit the Buffalo Bill Museum. Allow a day. But that is 70 miles from East Yellowstone! Ponderosa Campgrounds in Cody is nice.
I am sure you will get other opinions, for ingress and egress from Yellowstone and for not staying in the park, I strongly recommend Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone Montana!!! It is located just blocks from the west entrance to Yellowstone. http://www.grizzlyrv.com/ (http://www.grizzlyrv.com/)
Also recommend on the first two days, doing the north and south loop tour via a bus/van. I believe they will still pick you up in the resort. Then on the third, fourth ? days drive in with your auto to go back to your favorite places you would like to explore more. Bring an IR Thermometer to measure some of the ground temperatures!!!
Use http://www.rvparkreviews.com (http://www.rvparkreviews.com) for researching places to stay in other area.
BTW, if you ever make it to North Dakota, stop at Medora ND, about 25 miles east of the Montana border on highway US94, at the entrance to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. From June 1st to Labor Day that very small town (population less than 200) has as fantastic, patriotic show in their beautiful 2,700 seat amphitheater ( http://www.medora.com/musical/?Burning-Hills-Amphitheatre (http://www.medora.com/musical/?Burning-Hills-Amphitheatre) ) . Also see the afternoon show in the old town theater ( http://www.medora.com/what-to-do/?A-Teddy-Roosevelt-Salute-to-Medora (http://www.medora.com/what-to-do/?A-Teddy-Roosevelt-Salute-to-Medora) ) . Don't miss Pitch Fork Steak Fondue for dinner before the show ( http://www.medora.com/where-to-eat/?Pitchfork-Steak-Fondue (http://www.medora.com/where-to-eat/?Pitchfork-Steak-Fondue) ) , located at the top of the amphitheater. Ten rib eye steaks on each pitch fork, with huge pots of oil for quick cooking. Yummmmm.
