I went to retract my dining side slide out, did not go in all the way, got on my ladder and saw a disconnected lift bar mechanism arm (3 screws came out preventing slide from fully retracting).
I went ahead and removed the 13' lift bar mechanism, went to carefree of colorado website to see about sideout cover removal and re-install. Found out the summit lift bar mechanism has been discontinued.
My questions are have any of you had trouble will these units? And why did they discontinue them ?. (I have 2 more in bedroom slideouts) Are they worth having?
Thanks Jim

Re: [Country-Coach-Owners] carefree summit lift bar mechanismWe had the same problem on our bedroom slide. I took it off and it seems to be ok. It's a challenging sound, and it's even more challenging to take it off in 25 degree weather with snow going sideways! We still have the mechanism on our 2 main slides. I think when they break, I'll just take them off too.

Are you talking about the bars that peak the slide out cover so the rain will run off? If so, the factory removed the mechanism on the main drivers side slide because the mechanism was trapping water on the cover. Works perfect but sometimes in heavy rain I will lower or raise one end of the coach to get the water to drain better. I have not had any problem with the two bedroom slides.

Dan,

I'am talking about the bars that peak the slide out cover, I just went to premier coach in Tucson spoke with with service guy Doug, I'am having them re-installed this Thursday. I was not going to but I noticed without them there is alot of loose fabric that I fear will tear in high winds or create alot of noise, also my kitchen side slideout is out of alignment. We are talking about the same thing. Carefrees' own manual refers to it as an "optional lift bar system". The frame for the system would loosen up and allow the fabric to sag, on the large slides, trapping large amounts of water behind the peak and placing a lot of stress on the cover fabric. As I said the factory removed it and I have not had any trouble with it since. I have not had issues with the smaller bed room lift system. I know of a number of CC owners who had the lift system removed back during the days of the CC campground. I really don't think you are going to be able to get the lift system to operate effectively on a permanent basis. As for the looseness of the material that is a matter of adjusting the tension on the roller. As for Doug at Premier, he is new and I would ask Eric specifically for his opinion.
