I need to replace the original refrigerator in my 04 Intrigue Ovation. I need some advise abt the best thing to do. I have been RVing abt 16 years (vacations only)and have never as far as I can remember boondocked. Wife has to be "hocked up". I am thinking abt an electric only unit. Anyone have thoughts on that and the brand of unit?

The only way to go is electric residential (IMHO). Samsung counter depth Is everyone's favorite including me, but I went cheap with a GE top mount freezer for about half the price. Even the Samsung + the cabinet modifications and installation will be half what a new Norcold would cost and no concern over recalls and fires.

Let's stir the pot and before I begin let me disclose that I have no financial or emotional interest in Norcold. My Norcold died this weekend. There was a leak in the cooling unit and the recall sensor shut the whole unit down. I called my extended warranty Easy Care and they said that the repair would be covered and that I called apply the cost of repair to a new units.
My first action was to obtain a quote to install a Samsung unit and the bid was $3800 from a well respected Oregon service center. I went on line and found a new 1210 Norcold the replacement to the 4 door 1200 from PPL for $2800 and free shipping. I also obtained a quote to replace the cooling unit with a new unit for $1590.
I don't think the Samsungs are as cheap as some are claiming unless you do the work your self. I could not find the Samsung 197 on either Lowes or Home Depots web sites but I saw them on some other discount sites so I don't know how available they may be.

I found my Samsung from the Sears web site, about $1500.00 delivered to the Dallas, Texas area.

Sounds as though they are marking the Samsung quiet a lot. Check the prices here and many offer free delivery, you should not be paying $1800 for the RF197:

The quote I got was $1600 for the Samsung and about 20 hours of labor for the install and wood work resulting in the about $3800. I would think $1000 for install and wood work is a good price if you can get a good look at the quality of their cabinet work.

Dan,

You need to get a better quote! I paid right at $1000 for the Samsung 197 from Lowes.

Be sure to take a look at the samung 195 from lowes.
Look to be the same as the 197 but with one upper door.
Sells for less.

Best Buy service sucks, would never buy from them.

Check the swing of the single door - slides in and slides out - as you consider that model. A friend with a Monaco made a HUGE mistake with a single door refrigerator.

I talked to two shops about me supplying the refrigerator and they said they would not install my refrigerator. That included a Norcold 1210 which you can get online for $1000 less than mfg and a Norcold 1210 is the exact replacement. So you may be stuck if you are not going to do the install your self.
