Title: Replacing a Kwikee Step controller - Heads UP

I just installed a new controller, pt# 909510000, which is the manufacturers designated replacement for the older controllers, pt# 909570000 used on a lot of our coaches. The steps now work backwards, open door - steps retract, close door - steps extend. After a little investigation, I traced the problem to the normally closed switch in my door. It needs to be a normally open switch.
I contacted Kwikee this morning and was told that a design change took place affecting units shipped after February, 1999, which requires a normally open switch. Not totally believable since that would mean that CC used 5+ year old step inventory on my 2005 coach, an unlikely scenario. I don't really know what is going on, but just be aware that there is a door switch issue with Kwikee controllers if the steps operate backwards after replacing the controller.

I just noticed I put an extra zero on both the part numbers. They just have 3 zeros at the end, not 4.

I've read about this same issue and the suggested solution was to reverse the wires on the motor. I don't know if it works?

Stuart:

This is a common problem now when changing out to these new controllers, what you need is a Reversing harness (Which I now have in stock), this plugs in between the motor & controller & reverses the switch.

I do not believe that will work.

According to Kwikee, the steps will then work in the proper direction, but ignition overide and last out feature will not work correctly.

The reversing harness will take care of ALL of these issues.

Kevin, thank you for the reply. Sending you a PM shortly.
I also need to correct two mis-statements I made. The part numbers do have the 4 zeros on the end for the controller in a series 42 Kwikee step. 909570000 (old) and 909571000. Sorry.
I also said the reason for my steps operating backwards was because of a normally closed instead of a normally open door switch. Not true after I got inside the door to replace it. It is a n/o switch for the steps, with a n/c side to turn on and off the coach floor entry light. Again, sorry.
Here is a pdf for the series 42 steps that is the best doc I have seen regarding these steps. FYI

Geeze, I can't even seem to get anything right. I forgot to include the link to the Kwikee Series 42 PDF file. Here it is: http://support.powergearus.com/techdocs/1422258.pdf (http://support.powergearus.com/techdocs/1422258.pdf)
