Good Morning,

I would like to hear from current users how the BK roof coatings are working for them. Our 01 Magna is ready for treatment soon and want to get best material we can for this project.

Thanks for all information you can pass on.

We had Bus Kote applied a year and a half ago and are very pleased with the result. Wish we'd had it done from the get-go.

Paul,

I had applied the Bus Kote to an Intrigue that I just sold and was very pleased with the results. It does seem to have some insulating effect and eliminated any side streaking on the coach.
I have purchased a Magna and definitely plan on applying Bus Kote to it also.
I applied 1 coat of primer, 3 coats of Bus Kote & 2 coats of sealer. I was told by someone on this forum that it's better to apply a greater number of thin coats rather than fewer thick coats.
A friend of mine put a real thick coat of Bus Kote on rather than several thin coats & it turned yellow.

Good luck,

Fred Compton

We had it applied by Fountain RV in Lakeland FL and it stopped the streaks. Insulating factor not measurable but certainly can't hurt. We are very pleased with the result.

Paul,

I am sold on Bus Kote. Paul I first applied Bus Kote to our roof three years ago and just reaplied three weeks ago before our three month trip around U.S. and Canada. I did a lot of research with our CC owners and with a few bus companies in the desert . I cleaned the surface with soapy water and a broom washed off the roof and the next day I applied Bus Kote, two coats over a three day period. I now only use one coat every two years. Our motor home is an 2005 Inspire, with a sky lite over the shower. I contacted the manfacture in Florida and asked if I could paint over the sky lite with out creating a problem. ( No Problem ) Since using the Bus Kote on the roof and the sky lite I believe we have dropped the tempurture in the motorhome by at least 10 degrees. We no longer go pass the sky lite and get hit with heat to equal a fire place, without eliminating the light from the sky lite. I almost forgot one of the best solutions that Bus Kote provides ----- NO MORE WHITE STREAKS AFTER A RAIN ON THE SIDE OF THE COACH.
Below I have provided you with the discription and the phone call you can use to order. This is the only place out of Florida that you can order.

Please do not hesitate to call of email me if I can be of any help. This product is FANTASTIC

BUS KOTE offers superior mildew resistance, soundproofing, UV ray reflectivity, corrosion resistance and a beautiful ceramic insulating finish. Originally designed as an insulating, reflective coating for school districts to use on the roofs of school buses to lower the interior bus temperature. This energy saving coating will reduce interior temperatures when hot and make interior temperatures more constant when cold due to Hy-Tech ceramic insulation. Formulated to resist over 100 m.p.h. wind driven rains. The coating resists damage by hail and rain, and insulates against noise and the corrosive effects of their attack. Hy-Tech insulating ceramic microspheres are a direct result of NASA technology developed for space vehicles to protect from the extreme heat encountered.

If this stuff has to be reapplied every two years, I cannot imagine why anyone would go to the expense and trouble of putting it on. I use Aerospace 303 UV protectant, it stops white chalk marks, protects the gelcoat, and cost practically nothing. I apply it once per year.

Al - Good point and I agree. If CC went the distance on the roof treatment (clear coat perhaps) then none of this would be necessary. No bus kote and no streaking. We need measures to reduce costs and maintenance items on these busses. Not increase both. Knowing ahead of time that a bus is going to bake in the sun (read U/V here) and get washed by rain isn't splitting the atom. Responsible design would imply proper selection of materials and/or coatings is in order. And if those selections are made properly it eases the load on the customer's resources. Especially on the roof. Just my 2 cents.

Hi Paul,

What color is this Bus Koate Roof Treatment? As the write up states "bright white" formula. May be a stupid question, but is it really white or transparent after application? I would hope transparent.

Al, I heard about that 303 UV protectant.
I see its on Amazon for a reasonable price.
My coach is stored outside and those white chalk marks mess it up.
How do you apply it ?

How many gallons needed for my 45'CC ? Thanks Hans Magna #6463

Here is a link to the manufacturer. It will only take about a pint to do your roof. Note that you spray it on and WIPE IT DRY! DO NOT allow any puddles to dry! It must be wiped so it is a thin film that dries, and if you do that properly, it will shed water as well as repel UV. It MUST be applied in the shade so it does not prematurely dry. Appy it once per year.

I also protect my tires with it.
