Well, the fuse to the AC clutch relay has blown several times but will not blow if I disconnect the AC clutch wire.

So the AC compressor clutch will not spin.
I have an open Ohm reading with the positive cable on the wire to the clutch and negative cable grounded to the engine.
I get a Warning reading on my 134a gauge, which would mention an over charge situation, but with the clutch deactivated maybe means nothing.
I suspect the 18 year old compressor may be shot. It is a Zexel (now something else).
Does anyone know what compressor might replace this old one on my 300 hp Cummins 8.3L?

Not sure what you are talking about here. What are the hi and low side readings. What is the warning for. With the unit not running they should be the same. Let me know the readings and I can probably give you an idea.
As far as how much freon to use. The gauges are marked, 134a in particular is happier being charged by temp.

Ken,

I used 2 1/2 small cans to re-charge mine a couple of months ago but, it was not quite totally empty. So, I am guessing that 3 cans is OK but your pressure gauge should be your guide.

Thanks for the reply, Being in Pt. Townsend Wa. to cool to run the A/C Driving the rig I checked the High Side Fitting and it is still tight. Re Routing the hose helped. Looks like this winter a trip to the A/C Shop in Yuma for a new hose ned. Seeing some oil at the hose at the fitting. Not bad I guess for a 99 Coach. Ken 99 Allure 30356.

Steve, yes it was converted before I purchased it in 2002.
